As the Human Resources Generalist in our Tokyo-based team, you'll support and enhance HR processes across recruitment, employee relations, payroll, compliance, and development. Working closely with artists, managers, and leadership, you'll help ensure our multicultural studio runs smoothly and remains a supportive and positive place to work.
This role is suited to someone who thrives on both people engagement and structured process. You'll bring empathy, consistency, attention to detail, and a solutions-focused approach, helping to strengthen our HR foundation while contributing to the overall employee experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Recruitment and Onboarding: Assist with posting roles, coordinating interviews, maintaining accurate records, and supporting smooth onboarding experiences.
- Employee Relations: Act as the first point of contact for HR queries, and help organise engagement activities to support a positive workplace culture.
- Payroll Administration: Process monthly payroll for keiyaku employees, track leave, upload payslips, and liaise with finance and external specialists to ensure compliance.
- Policies and Compliance: Maintain HR policies and ensure all activities comply with Japanese labour law and company standards.
- Performance Management: Support probationary reviews, annual appraisals, and the tracking of performance schedules.
- HR Records and Reporting: Maintain accurate employee records, update databases, and prepare reports as needed.
- Training and Development: Coordinate training logistics, maintain training records, and support the identification of development needs.
- General HR Support: Provide hands-on assistance across HR programs and contribute to process improvements.
What You'll Bring
- Experience: Minimum of three years in a generalist HR role.
- Languages: Bilingual proficiency in Japanese and English (written and spoken) is essential; other languages are an asset.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of Japanese labour laws and HR best practices.
- Skills: Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational abilities, with discretion in handling sensitive information.
- Tools: Proficiency in HR software and Google Workspace.
- Mindset: A proactive, solution-oriented approach and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
