If these values resonate with you, we'd love to explore how you can join us on this exciting journey. We're looking for a Japanese art and antiques expert to join our team. As a specialist in this field, you'll be responsible for evaluating and organizing lots submitted by our users. You'll use your expertise and extensive network to create an attractive list of lots every week. Catawiki aims to make user-to-user transactions as transparent and fair as possible. Your expertise and experience will play a crucial role in maintaining this standard. You'll check the title, description, and photos of the items and provide users with an estimated sale price based on this information. If an item needs to be rejected, you'll do so in a professional and polite manner. We're looking for someone with a deep understanding of Japanese art and antiques, as well as a strong network of online sellers, particularly those who are planning to expand their sales to Europe. This could include dealers, galleries, curators, craftsmen, and passionate collectors. The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:
  • Specialized knowledge of Japanese art and antiques
  • Knowledge of Asian art and antiques is a plus
  • Professional experience in online trading on platforms such as Catawiki, 1stDibs, eBay, Yahoo Auctions, and Japanese art and antiques fairs
  • Understanding of auction strategies (minimum sale price, sale rate, cash flow) and ability to optimize them
  • Excellent analytical skills to monitor auction performance and advise users on trends
  • Proven track record in the field
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills
  • A strong network of potential sellers and experts in the field
  • Mediation skills to resolve disputes between users
  • Proficiency in Japanese and English (English courses may be provided if necessary)
The role will be based in Japan (preferably) and Hong Kong. As an expert in the Asia & Tribal Art department, you'll work remotely. This means we typically ask you to be in the office 2 out of 5 days, roughly 40% of your working time, to collaborate and connect with your colleagues.
