The Retail HR Manager plays a critical role in driving the people strategy for our retail organization in Japan.
This role owns the end-to-end retail HR lifecycle, acting as a trusted business partner to retail leadership while ensuring operational excellence, legal compliance, and a positive employee experience across stores.
This is a hands-on, highly independent role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and enjoys building structure, improving processes, and proactively solving problems.
Key ResponsibilitiesRetail HR Operations (End-to-End Ownership)
Own full-cycle Retail HR responsibilities across all stores in Japan
Act as the primary HR partner for retail teams, store staff, and retail management
Handle employee relations matters in collaboration with the HR Director, ensuring timely and compliant resolution
Conduct employee interviews, feedback sessions, and store visits as needed (both online and in person)
Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning
Lead end-to-end hiring for retail stores, including:
Permanent employees
Temporary and seasonal workers
Plan and execute seasonal hiring strategies aligned with business needs
Source candidates in the most cost-effective and efficient manner
Manage onboarding processes, including coordination with department stores
Lead retail headcount (HC) planning and approval processes
Prepare and submit required data for HC approvals
Data, Reporting & Payroll Coordination
Create and manage Excel-based HR data and reports for internal and Fashion Group submissions
Calculate and monitor:
Retail turnover rates
Temporary worker costs
Retail hiring budgets
Prepare and submit accurate employee data to the Fashion Group Payroll team
Ensure timely and precise data submission across all HR systems (HRIS)
Contracts, Compliance & Labor Law
Prepare and manage employment contracts for retail employees
Ensure compliance with Japanese labor law, particularly regulations related to:
Shift workers
Store-based employees
Support exit processes and conduct exit interviews
Analyze exit data and proactively use insights to improve engagement and retention
Training & Development
Identify training needs within the retail organization
Plan and execute necessary training programs for retail staff in collaboration with stakeholders
Support continuous skill and capability development across the retail team
Stakeholder Management & Leadership
Lead bi-weekly Retail HR meetings
Build strong, trust-based relationships with:
Retail Managers
Finance Team
Store staff
HR team members
Act as a key partner to the HR Director, supporting both strategic and operational priorities

Strong numerical and analytical skills
Tech-savvy with the ability to efficiently use HRIS and digital tools
Experience managing budgets related to hiring, store visits, and temporary workforce
