Job Description: General Manager / Country Head, Japan

We are a global leader in the medical aesthetics device market, holding the #1 market share in Japan for both HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) and RF (radiofrequency) technologies. Our Japan operation is the cornerstone of our global success, representing a significant and growing portion of total company revenue.
Following a strategic shift under new majority ownership, a leading healthcare investment firm, we are embarking on an exciting new chapter. We are building a new local leadership team to reinvigorate our Japan business and cement our market leadership against growing competition. This is a unique opportunity for a commercially driven leader to take the helm of a highly successful, established organization and propel it to its next level of growth.
The Role
As the General Manager / Country Head for Japan, you will have full P&L responsibility for a substantial business with approximately EUR 70 million in revenue. You will lead and motivate a dedicated, 100-person direct sales force—a team built over the past decade—with full end-to-end accountability for the commercial success of the Japan region.
Key Responsibilities
- P&L & Commercial Leadership: Own the full P&L for the Japan business. Develop and execute a comprehensive commercial strategy to drive growth, maximize profitability, and increase market share.
- Team Leadership & Motivation: Provide inspirational leadership to a large, established sales team. Foster a high-performance culture, implement effective incentive structures, and coach the team to excellence.
- Strategic Business Development: Balance maintaining and deepening relationships with our extensive existing customer base with the aggressive acquisition of new clients to expand our market presence.
- Marketing & Channel Strategy: Enhance all customer-facing materials and sales channels. Drive digital engagement, including social media strategy, to strengthen our brand and effectively support our clinic partners.
- Product Launches: Strategically lead and execute the launch of new products and technologies into the Japanese market.
- Partnership with Clinics: Act as a strong, strategic partner to doctors and clinics, providing them with the tools and insights needed to successfully position our products to end-consumers in a B2B2C model.
- Executive Collaboration: Work closely and collaboratively with global headquarters leadership and the new majority shareholder, ensuring alignment on strategy and execution. The Tokyo-based team will provide a strong support network and assist in building key ecosystem relationships.
Qualifications And Experience
- Proven track record as a General Manager, Country Head, or in a similar role with full P&L and end-to-end business responsibility.
- Experience motivating, leading, and scaling large (100+ person) commercial teams, preferably within a direct sales environment.
- (Preferred) In-depth knowledge of the medical aesthetics, MedTech, or medical device industries. Deep understanding of the sales cycle for selling capital equipment to doctors and clinics, including the nuances of the B2B2C model.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with full professional fluency in English on top of native-level Japanese ("proven business level Japanese")
- A hands-on, commercially astute leader with a demonstrated ability to develop strategy and execute flawlessly to deliver results.
- Bachelor's degree required; MBA or other advanced degree is a plus.
