  • Supports development and implementation of Japan's environmental sustainability strategy and tactical plans for the company.
  • Works with Planet team and Japan region to develop and implement sustainability programs, including for climate, water, waste, biodiversity, etc.
  • Leads/supports environmental sustainability metrics gathering, validation and reporting efforts for the Japan region in support of Takeda's Planet strategy and corporate reporting efforts.
  • Subject matter expert on environmental compliance and sustainability for Japan region.
  • Leads/supports development of environmental sustainability standards, SOPs, EHS Technical standards, tools, and trainings for Japan region.
  • Supports senior management team in the development of Takeda's environmental sustainability strategy, including long-term sustainability goals and programs for climate, water, waste, wastewater treatment, biodiversity, etc.
  • Works with corporate EHS and Planet team to develop tactical plans and implement sustainability and compliance programs/processes to achieve company goals across Japan region.
  • Identifies environmental risk as appropriate for Japan and coordinates with Planet team to integrate into the Enterprise Risk Management Program
  • Leads/supports the development of environmental sustainability standards, SOPs, EHS Technical standards, tools, and trainings.
  • Leads/supports the initiatives regarding the Energy Conservation Act in Japan.
  • Leads/supports data gathering and validation efforts to support internal and external environmental sustainability reporting for Japan region.
  • Leads/supports internal and external sustainability reporting effort for Japan region (e.g., CDP, ESG, etc.)
  • Participates with peer groups for benchmarking, identification of best practices and partnering activities.
  • Other duties as assigned

    • Technical/Functional (Line) Expertise

  • Knowledge of environmental sustainability topics including, but not limited to, GHG, energy, water stewardship, waste management, and wastewater management, with the ability to clearly assess and communicate with corporate senior management the environmental risk, opportunities, and program needs.
  • Deep knowledge of sustainability reports (e.g CDP, etc.)
  • Experience working with multiple locations, with ability to effectively interact with multi-functional teams, as well as lead, facilitate and motivate teams.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and develop relationships and partnership models with our stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to provide training support.
  • Very strong computer skills, specifically with Excel and PowerPoint as well as experience with enterprise level EHS data management applications (Enablon, Intelex, Gensuite, etc.).

  • Ability to work independently, meet requirements and deadlines from multiple stakeholders and execute tasks strategically in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering (other engineering or science-related degrees will be considered on a case-by-case basis). A master's degree in a related field is strongly preferred.
  • Position requires 5+ years of experience of facility or corporate experience in this field and 3+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical and/or chemical industries in manufacturing/R&D environments.
  • Must have a solid understanding of energy, water, and waste management systems.
  • Must be proficient in English

  • Working Hours: Headquarters (Osaka/ Tokyo) 9:00-17:30, Production Sites (Osaka/ Yamaguchi) 8:00-16:45, (Narita) 8:30-17:15, Research Site (Kanagawa) 9:00-17:45
  • Holidays: Saturdays, Sundays, National Holidays, May Day, Year-End Holidays etc. (approx. 123 days in a year)
