Our client is a world-renowned tourism organization dedicated to promoting a premier global destination. They are passionate about showcasing this unique location's vibrant culture, iconic attractions, and unforgettable experiences. We are seeking a dynamic leader to represent their brand and drive tourism growth in the Japan market.
The Role:
As the Country Director for Japan, you will be the senior leader and the public face of the organization in the region.
Based in Tokyo and reporting to senior leadership at the head office, you will have full strategic and operational responsibility for developing and executing marketing, PR, and trade initiatives to achieve key business objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategy & Leadership:
Devise and lead the overall market strategy for Japan, overseeing the implementation of all marketing, PR, and trade programs to meet key performance indicators.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Identify, establish, and maintain strategic partnerships with key stakeholders, including government bodies, media, online portals, airlines, and the travel trade industry.
Market Representation:
Act as the primary spokesperson, building long-term relationships to strengthen the destination's brand and ensure sustainable visitor growth.
Market Intelligence:
Keep abreast of market developments and provide continuous feedback on the operational environment and competitive landscape to inform head office strategy.
Team Management:
Build, lead, and mentor a high-performance team, fostering a culture of excellence and aligning the team with the organization's mission and values.
Office Management:
Oversee all business activities and staff in the Japan office, ensuring operational effectiveness and compliance with legal and policy requirements.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
A university degree, preferably in Travel/Tourism, Marketing, or a related discipline.
Minimum of 15 years of proven experience in the tourism industry, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
A broad-based and in-depth knowledge of the marketing mix, including advertising, PR, digital, and trade distribution.A strong understanding of the consumer and travel trade landscape in Japan.
Proven ability to foster and maintain excellent relationships with high-level external partners.
An analytical, strategic thinker with strong commercial acumen and a results-oriented mindset.
An exceptional presenter and communicator, comfortable acting as a public spokesperson.
Proficiency in both written and spoken English and Japanese is essential.
Willingness to travel as required.
