The Chief Data Office plays a key role in defining and implementing the firm's data strategy, driving transformational change through data capabilities, enforcing data governance for both transformation and regulatory compliance, and elevating Nomura's data culture.
It is the central authority overseeing and supporting Business and Corporate functions in adopting enterprise data tools, and establishing and performing operational data management.
Data strategy department is one of the main departments that support the company's data strategy across various domains. It promotes digitalization by addressing the elements necessary for transformation, regulatory compliance, and data-driven decision-making culture through data governance.
This involves building and maintaining data operations models and providing support to various business departments.
Responsibilities
- We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Data Governance specialist to join the Chief Data Office.
- The ideal candidate will focus on stakeholder management and communication with business functions and senior management to drive the implementation of Nomura's Data Management Framework.
- This role requires strong interpersonal, communication, organizational and project management skills to ensure effective collaboration and alignment of data governance initiatives across the firm.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the primary point of contact for data governance related inquiries from business functions and senior management.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders across various departments to ensure alignment and support for data governance initiatives.
- Coordinate and facilitate regular meetings with stakeholders to discuss data governance issues, requirements and updates.
- Address stakeholder concerns and provide guidance on data management policy, standard and operating model.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive communication strategy to promote data governance awareness and compliance.
- Create and deliver presentations and reports to senior management and business functions regarding data governance activities and progress.
- Prepare and distribute regular updates and newsletters on data governance initiatives, policies and best practices.
- Translate complex data governance concepts into clear, actionable information for non-technical stakeholders.
- Support the development, implementation and maintenance of data governance policies, standards and procedures.
- Collaborate with the data management roles in business and technology functions to ensure data management best practices are embedded into business processes and systems.
- Assist in the identification and resolution of data governance issues, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
- Monitor and report on the effectiveness of data governance initiatives and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Develop and deliver training programs and workshops to educate business functions on data governance framework, tooling and best practices.
- Promote a culture of data governance awareness and accountability across the organization.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or above in information management, business administration or a related field.
- 5 + years of data governance and data strategy consultancy and implementation experience.
- Strong understanding of data governance principles, policies and best practices. Knowledge of the MBOK or DCAM frameworks preferred.
- Proven experience in stakeholder management and communication within a large organization.
- Native-level Japanese and business-level English, with the ability to convey complex information to diverse audiences.
- Strong organizational and project management skills. PMP or agile certifications preferred.
- Experience working in financial services or equivalent knowledge.
- Experience in developing and delivering training programs is a plus.
- Proficiency in data governance tools and technologies is a plus.
- Ability to influence and drive change across the organization.
