Job Description:
The Payroll Consultant is responsible for managing Japan monthly payroll tasks independently and ensuring accuracy and timeliness in the payroll process. They will collaborate with various stakeholders such as the HR and Finance teams to ensure the proper handling of payroll-related tasks, address inquiries from Japanese employees, and participate in ad-hoc assignments and projects.
Key Job Accountabilities:
- Manage monthly Japan payroll process, including input and output validation, payroll report reconciliation and finalization, statutory and non-statutory remittance and reporting, GL reporting, and preparation of documents for internal and external audit compliance.
- Assist with ad-hoc tasks like report delivery, troubleshooting, User Acceptance Test (UAT) testing, severance payment calculation, support for payroll projects, and responding to queries from HRBP and accounting/controllership.
- Collaborate with vendors to oversee social insurance, payroll system modifications, Japan year-end activities, monitor vendor service delivery, and budget planning.
- Identify and share internal best practices, stay updated on Payroll/HRIS trends to enhance internal workflow efficiency and processes.
- Supervise payroll process, highlight potential risks, and suggest corrective action plans when necessary.
Education and Experience Required
- Graduate in any discipline with at least 50% aggregate scores - Bachelor's degree or higher
- 8 to 10 years of total experience with a minimum of 8 years in payroll
- Language Proficiency - Native level Japanese, Business level English
Professional and technical competencies:
- Experience in Japan Payroll process in-house or outsourcing
- Thorough knowledge of Japan payroll process, including Year-end activities and statutory remittance
- Experience with cloud HR solutions (SAP, workday/time management) is a plus
- Exposure to large-scale HRIS application development/integration is advantageous
- Fluency in Japanese and English
- Analytical and strong problem-solving skills
