Battery Specialist Engineer - Energy Storage Systems
Location: Tokyo, Japan
Overview: Join my client's team as a Battery Specialist Engineer to play a crucial role in advancing their energy storage solutions. You'll be responsible for the design, implementation, and optimization of battery systems for renewable energy applications across Japan.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and validate battery systems for utility-scale energy storage projects
- Perform detailed battery performance analysis and lifetime predictions
- Develop battery management system (BMS) specifications and requirements
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on system integration
- Conduct thermal analysis and safety assessments of battery systems
- Evaluate and qualify battery suppliers and technologies
- Provide technical support for project deployment and commissioning
- Create technical documentation and design specifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years experience in battery technology and energy storage systems
- Strong understanding of lithium-ion battery chemistry and characteristics
- Experience with battery management systems (BMS)
- Proficiency in battery modeling and simulation tools
- Knowledge of relevant safety standards and grid codes
- Experience with MATLAB/Simulink or similar simulation tools
- Business-level English proficiency
- Japanese language skills (N2 or higher preferred)
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with grid-scale energy storage projects
- Knowledge of power electronics and grid integration
- Familiarity with renewable energy systems (solar, wind)
- Experience with thermal management systems
- Understanding of Japanese grid compliance requirements
- Project management experience
- Experience with battery testing and validation
