[Position Summary:]
The "Senior Manager, Medical Science Liaison (MSL)" is a field-based scientific expert that strategically supports the medical and scientific objectives of Alexion's product/indication(s) across the product/s life cycle. He/she is a peer scientific expert who communicates accurate and applicable science to Healthcare Practitioners (HCPs) in a non-promotional scientific context within a geographic area. In addition, the MSL manages and maintains collegial/professional relationships with HCPs and identifies and facilitates collaboration opportunities with Alexion. The MSL combines strong business acumen and clinical expertise and serves as a peer-to-peer liaison internally and externally.
In addition, He/She supports and contributes to the "Associate Director, MSL Manager" in identifying external stakeholders, developing a Field Medical Plan, and managing the MSL team.
Also, He/She leads team/cross-faction's tasks and projects, and contribute to supporting works and personnel development of "Manager, MSL".

- Develop and maintain peer-to-peer collaborations and relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) under unbiased, fair, and scientific perspective. in a relevant therapeutic area on activities consistent with the local Medical Plan within the assigned geographic region.
- Engage in discussion with physicians on medical affairs initiatives including publications, externally sponsored Collaboration (ESC), regional advisory boards, regional medical education opportunities, training and speaker development programs.
- Support the medical community with up-to-date medical information, robust disease expertise and product information.
- Communicate expert opinions and feedback on new data to Alexion Medical Affairs and therapeutic area franchises.
- Provide medical and scientific input into the planning and execution of regional advisory boards and work with physician experts to review speaker presentations and provide medical references where requested.
- Respond to unsolicited medical information requests in the region, manage questions and liaise with headquarters personnel to ensure proper response has been provided and that data is fair and balanced.
- Work with regional government affairs and managed care account teams to deliver presentations in support of patient access.
- Understand local initiatives on disease and treatment guidelines.
- Serve as internal expert in specific therapeutic area demonstrating up-to-date and high-level therapeutic expertise.
- Depending upon therapeutic area, develop an understanding of the regional landscape including specialties involved in care of patients in that area & other landscape mapping activities.
- Maintain compliance with all internal and external legal and regulatory guidelines.
- Other duties upon request including special projects.
- Identifying and listing external stakeholders that should be the targets of activities.
- Contributing to and implementing the formulation of the Field Medical Plan.
- Explaining each project plan implemented by the team and the Field Medical Plan to relevant parties.
- Support "Manager, MSL" through work support/coaching.
- Contributing to collaborative leadership across business units/MA teams/departments through participation in cross-functional meetings and projects with other MSL teams, medical affairs teams, marketing teams, R&D teams, etc.
- Cooperate under MSL Manager on various practices and proposals for realizing Great Place to Work (GPTW)depending on the circumstances.
- Contribute to medical activities before regulatory approval of Alexion products through scientific exchange with KOLs. These activities may include, but are not limited to, disease awareness initiatives, patient pathway mapping, external stakeholder identification, advisory board meetings, support for internal training, and identifying key unmet needs and healthcare system challenges. All pre-approval activities must comply with Alexion's SOP, local laws and regulations.
You will need to have:
[Essential Qualifications. The minimum skills and requirements needed for the position]
- Substantial industry experience (> 3-4 years).
- Robust and current experience in relevant therapeutic areas relating to drugs in development, recently launched and marketed biologics/ therapies.
- He/She must have well-established networks and active relationships with KOLs focused on relevant therapeutic area.
- Experience in a MSL activities related field or rare disease is strongly preferred.
- He/She should have excellent communication skills (oral and written).
- Energetically embraces responsibilities, demonstrates ability to achieve goals
- Has a strong personal initiative, and functions well as part of a cross-functional team.
- Exhibits excellent time management and able to work independently.
- Travel within region 3-4 days per week with 1-2 office days per week.
- Required travel to medical meetings, team meetings and other group. meetings (will require some weekends –possible 6 /year).
- Native level Japanese and the ability to read and understand company documents and medical journals in English are essential. Business communication skills in English are also desirable.

Education
- Qualifications for doctors, pharmacists, and nurses, Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in sciences, PharmD, or PhD in sciences, or equivalent scientific background (Unless having sufficient experience in the pharmaceutical industry and in area of responsibility).
