SUMMARY

The Senior Manager uses a high-level understanding of the industry, clinical practice, and relevant experience to drive medical education for SPM & ENT in Japan within the International Markets. The role translates the key commercial priorities of the assigned business to medical education needs, plans a Med Ed calendar & resources accordingly, and identifies opportunities for collaboration on education. The role involves partnering with the Director Medical Education, SPM, IM on the design and implementation of the medical education strategy in Japan for the SPM & ENT businesses.

This position ensures state-of-the-art educational experiences across the continuum, aligned with BU strategy, ensuring safe and effective adoption of S&N products and technology. It oversees the end-to-end execution of educational programs across Japan for SPM & ENT with practicing surgeons, nurses, residents, fellows, or other related Healthcare Professionals (HCPs).

The individual will work closely with BU marketing teams across Japan to assess learning needs and develop suitable Medical Education programmes. The role also measures programme performance through surveys, KPI dashboards, and customer feedback. Leads by example through consistent engagement and relationship building with S&N faculty, societies, and internal stakeholders.

Additionally, the Senior Manager will manage a team of two direct reports, ensuring effective leadership, coaching, and development of the team to deliver medical education programmes successfully.

Position Functions:

Medical Education Strategy & Execution

  • Partner with key stakeholders to develop the strategic direction and operational roadmap for Medical Education with ownership for content development and course delivery excellence within Japan.
  • Engage and communicate with HCP faculty and internal stakeholders to implement and deliver high-quality S+N educational events.
  • Establish program agendas, develop course content, learning objectives, and attendee profiles.
  • Provide onsite support to SPM/ENT medical education courses in collaboration with the meeting planner team.
  • Liaise with Program Managers from International to align on training needs and ensure strategic Med Ed plan & execution.
  • Ensure compliance with Smith & Nephew's global and local policies and regulatory guidelines.
  • Prepare and control budgets for local delivery of medical education training activities.
  • Identify key societies for medical education partnerships and evaluate effectiveness annually.
  • Collaborate with internal & external stakeholders to ensure compliance with guidelines and oversee faculty contracts.

Innovate Medical Education Delivery Strategies

  • Drive innovation in learning; maximize opportunities for blended, flexible learning solutions.
  • Lead provision of local electronic content for the S&N Global learning portal (S+N Academy Online).
  • Assure hands-on skill training mainly driven at the Singapore Academy.

Measure Training Effectiveness and Adoption

  • Ensure systems and processes are in place to measure effectiveness of PTEs, including product adoption.
  • Prepare evaluation reports monthly, quarterly, and annually for regional and global functions.

Global Policies and Procedures Management

  • Manage implementation of the S&N Compliance code in all regional medical education activities.
  • Identify compliance and GPP training needs for regional and cluster medical education.
  • Report on changes to local regulatory environments.

Team Leadership & People Management

  • Manage and develop a team of two direct reports, ensuring clear role definition and accountability.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and regular feedback to support professional growth and performance.
  • Organize team meetings and one-to-one sessions to align priorities and maintain motivation.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture, encouraging innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee workload distribution and ensure efficient execution of medical education programs through the team.

Ad Hoc Duties

  • Carry out any reasonable request to perform other duties as required within the scope of the job title.
  • Always work safely with due regard for health, safety, and environmental protection.

REQUIREMENTS

Travel

  • +/- 20-30% travel within Japan

Education

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a business-related discipline

Experience

  • Minimum 10 years' experience in medical education or marketing management in the medical devices industry.
  • Strong business acumen and orientation.
  • Experience in SPM, ENT.
  • Proven experience in cross-functional collaboration.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing small teams.
