Position Summary
The HSSE Compliance Manager is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the HSSE Management System for projects and operations in Japan.
This role ensures compliance with HSSE standards, manages incident response and prevention, supports emergency and business continuity planning, and contributes to strengthening the organization's overall safety culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve the HSSE Management System
- Promote HSSE compliance across project and operational sites
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action tracking
- Support the development and maintenance of Emergency Response Plans (ERP) and Business Continuity Plans (BCP)
- Conduct HSSE audits, inspections, and reviews, and drive improvement actions
- Act as the main HSSE point of contact for projects and operations
- Coordinate with internal teams, contractors, and relevant external stakeholders
- Plan and deliver HSSE training and awareness programs
Requirements
Must Have
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health, Environmental Engineering, or a related field
- Minimum 10 years of HSSE / EHS-related professional experience
- Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with HSSE Management Systems
- Experience in incident investigation, emergency response, and HSSE audits
- Business-level proficiency in both English and Japanese (written and verbal)
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and reporting skills
- Ability to manage data, records, and documentation accurately
- Proactive, independent, and collaborative working style
Nice to Have
- Master's degree in Occupational Health, Environmental Engineering, or a related field
- Experience in power generation, energy, or industrial project development and operations
- Background in consulting or advisory roles
- National or international HSSE-related certifications (e.g., ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001)
- Experience using Microsoft Office 365 tools, including Excel, Power BI, and data analysis functions
- Experience working with regulators, training providers, or safety equipment vendors
- Experience in developing and delivering HSSE training programs
