We are looking for a Senior Product Compliance Manager to take charge of import regulations and product safety for our importing business. The main task is to ensure compliance with laws and regulations while upholding import compliance and product safety standards for the variety of imported products we deal with.
The Product Compliance Team is based in Seattle with additional teams in different parts of the world such as APAC, Europe, the Middle East, India, and Latin America. These teams work closely together and with global teams to drive project initiatives forward.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct research on regulations to determine import requirements and compliance documentation needed for new product categories.
- Collaborate with various internal stakeholders like Business, Legal, Logistics, and teams outside Japan to effectively promote the program.
- Develop and provide training programs and educational materials to explain product safety laws and regulations clearly.
- Understand internal systems to enhance operational efficiency and work with Tech and Product Teams for process enhancements.
- Engage with external test laboratories to support product safety programs as necessary.
- Negotiate with government authorities in collaboration with internal stakeholders when needed.
- Establish and nurture relationships with third-party consultants, test laboratories, industry associations, and other stakeholders to stay updated on regulatory changes and industry trends.
- Monitor and track key performance indicators related to product safety and compliance, providing regular reports to internal stakeholders and senior leaders.
- Continuously evaluate and enhance the risk management framework, processes, procedures, and regulatory policies to improve product safety and compliance outcomes.
A Day in the Life: The role entails researching import requirements, collaborating with stakeholders, developing training materials on product safety, optimizing systems, liaising with test labs and government bodies, maintaining industry relationships, and monitoring key performance indicators related to product safety and compliance.
Furthermore, the position requires ongoing assessment and improvement of risk management frameworks and regulatory policies to enhance product safety outcomes.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree or higher
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in risk management, product safety, regulatory compliance, or related fields, preferably in import/export.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Japanese regulatory requirements and technical standards related to product safety for imported products.
- Proficient in Japanese and English, both oral and written.
- Strong decision-making abilities with attention to detail, deadlines, and reporting.
- Master's degree
- Demonstrated expertise in safety regulations of imported products, including knowledge of relevant acts and industry standards.
- Skill in data analysis using tools like data dashboards and SQL.
- Excellent analytical skills for risk evaluation and mitigation strategies.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration across all levels.
