About [m]TALK Cafe

We're launching Tokyo's premiere language exchange café in Shibuya, a judgment-free space where people practice English and Japanese over quality coffee and genuine conversation. We're combining specialty coffee, thoughtful design, and regular events to make language immersion accessible and actually happen.

The Role

You'll be our first hire, working directly with the founder during pre-launch. This is varied, hands-on work: vendor coordination, meeting support, research, light admin, and occasional interpretation. The schedule changes weekly based on what needs doing, some weeks are heavier on meetings and site visits, others on research and coordination.

What You'll Do

Vendor Research & Coordination

  • Research potential partners based on project briefs (i.e., find local bakeries that wholesale danishes and Japanese sweets or organize a list of potential poets and DJ's for monthly events)

  • Compile publicly available information: products, pricing, contact details, wholesale options

  • Reach out with initial inquiries about products, pricing, and partnership availability

  • Schedule intro meetings for promising leads

Meeting Support

  • Accompany the founder to meetings (vendors, real estate agents, consultants)

  • Provide light Japanese interpretation when needed

  • Capture key takeaways and action items

Coordination & Admin

  • Schedule meetings and site visits around Tokyo Short translations (emails, forms, vendor communications)

  • Compile and organize documents

  • Travel to in-person meetings in central Tokyo

求める人材:

Required

Native-level Japanese & conversational English

  • Organized and detail oriented, someone who can take a project brief and run with it

  • Ability to travel around central Tokyo for meetings (Shibuya, Shinjuku, Minato)

  • Basic spreadsheet and research skills

Flexible with changing weekly priorities

Ideal

  • Interest in language learning, international communities, or Tokyo café culture

  • Background in hospitality, events, or retail

  • Excited about startup environments and direct impact

  • Comfortable with varied, sometimes unpredictable work

勤務時間・曜日:

10–20 hours/week, flexible weekly scheduling

勤務地:

Ability to travel around central Tokyo for meetings (Shibuya, Shinjuku, Minato)

給与:

Covered expenses: transportation, meeting costs, phone/communication, materials

Pay: 1,400円 - 1,800円 per hour
