The Country Manager Japan is responsible for leading and expanding business in Japan with a strong focus on Retail & Channel Management.
This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on execution to drive sustainable sales growth, elevate brand awareness, and ensure best-in-class retail experiences.
The Country Manager will directly manage and empower the local Marketing, Sales, and Service teams, ensuring seamless collaboration and high performance.
A strong track record in managing complex retail operations and channel partnerships is essential.This position requires close alignment with HQ in Europe.
Key Responsibilities
Business Strategy & Leadership
Develop and execute the Japan market strategy in line with company's global vision and regional targets.
Full P&L responsibility, annual budgeting, and performance management.
Identify and implement growth opportunities across retail stores, shop-in-shops, department stores and e-commerce channels.
Lead negotiations and build strategic partnerships with key retail partners and distributors.
Retail & Channel Management
Drive retail excellence by overseeing the performance and operations of all retail formats.
Optimize channel mix to maximize profitability, and premium brand positioning.
Ensure outstanding in-store execution, including VM standards, service quality, and customer experience.
Stock Management and forecasting and close liaison with demand planning and operations
Team Leadership
Directly lead, coach, and develop the Marketing, Sales, and Service teams.
Cultivate a high-performance culture that values collaboration, accountability, and growth.
Act as a role model for company's customer-centric and innovative spirit.
Brand Marketing
Localize and execute global brand campaigns tailored to Japanese consumers.
Develop impactful partnerships, PR activities, and influencer strategies.
Monitor market trends and competitor activities to proactively adjust local plans.
Operations & Compliance
Ensure operational excellence and compliance with Japanese legal, tax, and HR requirements.
Work closely with regional HQ on supply chain, new product launches, and after-sales processes.
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum of 10 years of progressive commercial and leadership experience, with a strong emphasis on Retail & Channel Management.
Demonstrated success in managing multi-channel retail operations, including department stores, shop-in-shops, and shopping malls.
Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, especially in Marketing, Sales, and Service.
In-depth understanding of the Japanese retail landscape and premium consumer trends.
Experience in the baby products, lifestyle, or premium/luxury retail industry is highly preferred.
Fluent in Japanese and business-level English.
Strong leadership, negotiation, and communication skills.
