The Opportunity

We're seeking an exceptional Data Manager to scale our Japanese operations. As the founding member of our Japanese data team, you'll shape how our cutting-edge AI models understand and protect personally identifiable information (PII) in Japanese contexts.

This role combines linguistic expertise with technical innovation, offering the unique opportunity to directly impact product development while working at the intersection of AI, privacy, and language technology.

Key ResponsibilitiesTeam Leadership & Development

• Lead a high-performing team of Japanese language annotators
• Implement training and quality assurance frameworks for consistent, high-quality data annotation
• Establish best practices for Japanese language data processing and annotation standards

Technical Excellence

• Help design and implement annotation guidelines for complex NLP tasks including Named Entity Recognition (NER), relation extraction, and coreference resolution
• Identify edge cases and model limitations through systematic testing and analysis
• Collaborate with Machine Learning engineers to optimize model performance for Japanese language processing
• Contribute to the evolution of our PII entity ontology with Japanese-specific considerations

Customer Success & Product Development

• Partner with the Japanese sales team to deliver exceptional customer experiences
• Translate client requirements into actionable technical solutions and product improvements
• Research and propose new features based on Japanese market needs and linguistic insights
• Provide expert consultation on Japanese language privacy considerations

Data Strategy

• Source and curate high-quality Japanese language datasets for model training
• Develop strategies for handling Japanese-specific PII patterns and cultural considerations
• Ensure data quality through rigorous validation and testing protocols

Required Qualifications

• Education:
  Master's degree or PhD in Linguistics, Computational Linguistics, or related field
• Language Skills:
  Native or near-native fluency in Japanese; professional proficiency in English (both written and oral); proficiency in other languages is an asset
• Attention to Detail:
  Exceptional organizational skills with demonstrated ability to manage complex, multi-faceted projects
• Collaboration:
  Proven ability to work independently while effectively collaborating across international teams

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficiency in additional languages
• Experience with annotation tools and data management platforms
• Familiarity with command line interfaces, Git version control, and Python
• Knowledge of regular expressions and basic programming concepts
• Teaching, training, or mentoring experience
• Understanding of privacy regulations and data protection standards in Japan
