Role Description
We are looking for a Zeirishi specialising in Japanese individual income tax to own our Japan tax domain. This role is ideal for someone who wants meaningful ownership, wants to help shape how technology solves tax challenges, and is motivated by contributing directly to the growth of a fast-moving organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Own all Japan individual income tax rules within our platform (logic, thresholds, edge-case handling, accuracy).
- Monitor legislative updates and proactively update our tax framework and calculations.
- Act as the company's Japan tax authority, advising internal teams and leadership.
- Conduct client calls (primarily foreign residents in Japan) explaining their tax situation confidently and clearly in English.
- Break down complex issues in a structured, simple, understandable way. Provide clarity, not vagueness.
- Work closely with engineering and product teams in an advisory capacity to ensure tax accuracy in software.
- Develop scalable processes for quality assurance of tax outputs.
Key Requirements
- Zeirishi qualification(必須)
- Strong experience in Japanese individual income tax (corporate/inheritance not required)
- Comfortable communicating in English (spoken and written); able to lead calls with international clients
- Japan-based or willing to relocate
- Able to work in-office
- Strong sense of ownership, accountability, and professional pride in accuracy
Preferred Requirements
- Experience working with foreign residents / expats / globally mobile individuals
- Background in: Boutique tax firms, Expat tax divisions of Big4, Global mobility or relocation advisory firms
- Experience in environments requiring independent judgment
- Interest in technology, platforms, automation, or process building
