The Opportunity
We are seeking a seasoned and strategic professional to join Boehringer Ingelheim as the Security & Crisis Manager Japan, based in Tokyo.
This role is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of our people, assets, and operations in Japan. This includes our offices, production plants, research & development sites and remote sales sites. The candidate will lead the implementation of global security strategies, manage country security programs, and provide expert guidance to mitigate risks and respond to crises. This is a critical manager position requiring a proactive, innovative, and collaborative approach to security and crisis management in a complex and diverse environment.
This role reports to the Head of Global Facilities and Engineering Japan and will work closely with the Global Security & Crisis Management Team.
Role & Responsibilities
Country Crisis- and Security Management Leadership:
• Oversee the Crisis- and Security Management framework at Boehringer Ingelheim Japan, including crisis response, site security, supply chain security, information protection, travel security, and event security.
• Ensure implementation of corporate standards. Provide strategic guidance to local and global decision-makers, aligning security goals with organizational priorities.
Risk Management & Crisis Response:
• Lead & coordinate country-wide crisis preparedness, including training, risk assessments and response plans.
• Respond effectively to security incidents and crises, maintaining business continuity and safeguarding personnel and assets.
• Conduct ongoing risk assessments, ensuring situational awareness and proactive mitigation measures.
Community Lead
• Lead & coordinate Local Crisis and Security initiatives in our sites in Japan with our Global Headquarter Functions.
• Ensure continuous training and further development of our Local Security Managers. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation in security practices.
Implementation of Crisis Management- and Security Strategies:
• Deploy global security strategies, standards, and programs within the region. Detect and drive decision making on needs for local adjustments.
• Lead the development of country security initiatives and ensure their successful local execution.
Stakeholder Management:
• Asset protection, People Protection, Crisis Management, and BCM are foundational to site resilience, require close collaboration and active engagement with global security teams and stakeholders.
• Build strong stakeholder relationships with internal stakeholders (HR, Legal, Business, IT, etc.) and external entities (governmental bodies, law enforcement, security associations).
• Steer Senior Management discussions and decision making, for example in the Crisis Management Team.
• Serve as a trusted advisor to regional leadership and global security teams.
• Ensure a timely exchange of information and required reporting (in the field of security as well as security incident / crisis management) to different stakeholders
Requirements:
• Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a security- or similar role, such as within corporate security, facility management, safety management or similar sectors.
• Proven multi year track record in project- or other complexity-management in an international working environment. Experience in working abroad preferred.
• Business fluency in English and Japanese is a must, along with intercultural collaboration competences. Japanese mother tongue is preferred.
• Experience in conducting crisis management trainings and tabletop exercises
• Willingness to respond flexibly to Crisis Situations, also outside of working hours in case of emergency.
• Expertise in geopolitical, regional, and local security factors, with the ability to apply this knowledge to planning and decision-making
• Ability to foresee and mitigate risks, manage crises, and communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
• Ability to collaborate with all levels of management, key external organizations and governmental bodies
• Master's degree in relevant profession. Certification in Security Management is desirable.
• Proficiency in audit, compliance, and advanced technical security understanding.
