About The Role
GreenLight is recruiting a Tokyo-based Events Manager (full-time contract) for OpenAI to support the strategy and execution of a wide portfolio of events. This role is ideal for an events professional who thrives in fast-paced environments and has deep experience producing sophisticated, high-impact events for innovative, global brands. This role will be anchored in Japan, with the opportunity to drive high-impact events across the broader APAC region, including Korea and Australia.
The ideal candidate will bring strong regional expertise, operational excellence, cultural fluency, and a passion for creating original, meaningful experiences—particularly within technology-forward and thought leadership contexts.
This position is based in Tokyo and requires occasional travel throughout Asia and internationally.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and deliver OpenAI's regional events programs and execution across Japan and APAC, delivering immersive, high-impact experiences.
- Design and produce events that translate OpenAI's complex, cutting-edge AI technology into locally relevant, globally consistent programming.
- Partner closely with OpenAI's global Marketing, Sales, Product, Policy, and Communications teams to align events with program goals and core narratives.
- Own the full event lifecycle, including concept development, budgeting, vendor management, logistics, and on-site execution.
- Drive creative innovation across all OpenAI event touchpoints, ensuring experiences are bold, seamless, and differentiated.
- Measure event performance and apply insights to continuously improve quality and impact.
- Manage high-stakes events involving OpenAI senior executives, enterprise partners, developers, policymakers, and media.
- Candidates must be able to work from the office at least three days per week.
Ideal Candidate Profile
You may be a strong fit for this role if you:
- Have 7+ years of experience leading complex, high-profile events at a global company
- Are fluent in English, with proficiency in Korean considered a strong advantage.
- Bring deep understanding of regional cultural nuances and audience expectations.
- Are energized by creating original, first-of-their-kind experiences.
- Can manage multiple, concurrent projects across different business functions with confidence and clarity.
- Can prioritize and make smart trade-offs within a defined program scope as business needs evolve.
- Possess a network of vendors and production partners across the region.
- Demonstrate strong financial and operational acumen, including budgeting, procurement, and multi-market payment and tax considerations.
- Are experienced working with cross functional leaderships and stakeholders.
- Communicate with confidence, clarity, and cross-cultural sensitivity.
- Remain grounded and decisive amid ambiguity and shifting priorities.
- Bring a proactive, collaborative, and solutions-oriented mindset.
- Have a strong interest in artificial intelligence and OpenAI's global impact.
