Role PurposeThe British Council Japan Exams team delivers around 250,000 tablet based speaking tests per year.
The purpose of this role is to support the development, production, and dissemination of communications collateral (including documents and videos) related to the speaking tests.
The role holder will be responsible for creating and processing materials in coordination with internal teams and external vendors, ensuring timely delivery and quality.
The communications collateral is aimed at various stakeholders (test takers, parents and guardians, teachers, and municipal board of education officers) and is distributed in both hard and soft copy formats through multiple channels.
This role requires attention to detail and the ability to work across different media formats to contribute to the successful delivery of creative products.
Role context
The British Council Strategic Programmes team has developed an at-scale solution for tablet delivered speaking test delivery, evaluation, and reporting.
Strategic Programmes anticipates that there will be significant demand for an at-scale solution for bespoke tablet delivered speaking tests beyond the current clients and partners, both in Japan and in other countries.
This role will be supporting diversification of the Exams portfolio by ensuring communication with test takers, parents and guardians, teachers, schools, and local boards of education is developed professionally and delivered on time.
Project Management
Lead and manage the development and production schedule of various creative assets and communications collateral (including documents and videos).
Ensure each item progresses smoothly and is delivered on time, coordinating with internal teams and external vendors as needed.
Oversee quality assurance and manage the sign-off process with the content owner and client.
Creative Production
Possess hands-on editing skills for both DTP materials and video content.
Support the creation and refinement of communications collateral, ensuring consistency, clarity, and alignment with project goals.
Work across various media formats and collaborate with designers, editors, and production teams to deliver high-quality outputs.
Stakeholder Collaboration
Work closely with clients and internal teams to understand requirements and item-specific details.
Participate in meetings with Communications, Technology, Operations, and Academic teams to gather input and ensure alignment across workstreams.
Role Specific Knowledge And Experience
Minimum / Essential Requirements
Experience (One Or More Of The Following)
Creation of PowerPoint documents at a consulting firm or similar industry
Editorial and/or proofreading experience at a publishing company
Experience in printed document production or design work at a design company
Required Professional Experience
Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in project management, communications, marketing, creative production, or related fields
Required Skills
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in work
Proven ability in project and/or schedule management
Smooth communication with clients and internal teams (including British Council members)
Proficiency in video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro or equivalent)
Advanced skills in Adobe Illustrator (required) and experience with Adobe InDesign (preferred)
Essential
Qualifications & Education:
The British Council systems and global processes operate in English. Written and verbal proficiency in English is required.
Japanese proficiency across Speaking, Listening, Writing and Reading is necessary to a C2 level. Evidence may be requested.
Relevant degree or equivalent professional experience.
