Position Summary:

As the Managing Director for Japan, you will be responsible for overseeing the overall operations of the Tokyo and Tochigi branches, ensuring the smooth and efficient functioning of both locations, as well as expansion within Japan. This role will have full accountabilities for all activities in Japan office, with a strong focus on leadership and growth of all teams to drive business growth and achieve strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Management

Working with Reporting to the President & Global Executives

  • Plan and execute growth strategies in Japan as part of the global strategy.
  • Provide regular updates in English on status and progress, and general matters in Japan.

Team Member & Organizational Performance Management

  • Ensure each department operates effectively and meets its functional objectives.
  • Grow each department to meet national and international group objectives.
  • Conduct personnel evaluations for each team member and provide feedback.

Project Management & Portfolio Growth

  • Plan and execute projects, providing project status updates to the President and Global executive.
  • Grow the portfolio of products manufactured or sourced in Japan for the Group.

Group and Supplier Communication

  • Ensure smooth communication between the Group and international and Japanese clients, and Japanese suppliers.
  • Facilitate effective communication between the Group and international and Japanese clients, and Japanese teams

Strategic Planning Meetings

  • Participate in scheduled strategic meetings with the President and Global Executives and other Managing Directors.

General Management

  • Ensure  general administrative tasks to ensure smooth office operations; financial, insurances, contract management, etc.

Sales and Marketing

Department Leadership & Management

  • Oversee the operations and strategic direction of the Sales & Marketing Department.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the team to achieve departmental KPIs and corporate goals.
  • Allocate resources effectively and ensure smooth cross-functional communication with other departments.

Domestic Retail Sales Promotion

  • Build and maintain relationships with distributors and clinics to promote retail sales (excluding direct sales visits).
  • Collaborate with the Marketing team to establish strong relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and secure a solid product positioning in the market.
  • Prepare for domestic trade shows and carry out promotional activities during events.
  • Monitor and manage domestic sales volumes.

Corporate Sales (Pharmaceutical & Cosmetic Companies)

  • Promote devices (e.g., injection needles) for use with injection drugs.
  • Propose integrated sales models where the client's pharmaceutical products are packaged with our devices.
  • Increase communication with major pharmaceutical and cosmetic manufacturers regarding existing and new products.
  • Enhance awareness of our products in potential new markets and propose OEM product opportunities.
  • Maintain communication and relationships with existing domestic pharmaceutical company clients.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience in senior management
  • Exceptional and strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire, motivate, and guide teams
  • 5+ years of experience in B-to-B sales at pharma or medical device companies
  • Proficiency with ERP software (NetSuite, Xero, or similar) and Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • 3+ years of experience in marketing at pharma or medical devices companies
  • Japanese English bilingual (Japanese3: Native level, English: Business level)
  • Proficient in BS and PL with proven ability in budget planning and financial control
  • MBA qualification is an asset
  • A results-driven team player who takes initiative and follows through, not just giving direction
  • Proven ability to organize, prioritize, and manage tasks with a structured approach

  • Salary range of 15M-25M Yen per year
  • Bonus: Twice a year (based on company performance and individual achievement)
