Japan Payroll Implementation Consultant

Global Payroll Project | Hybrid (Tokyo, Japan)

Join a global rollout and take ownership of Japan Payroll at the core of a multinational transformation.

We are supporting a global enterprise client in their Japan Payroll system implementation, as part of a wider international rollout. This role focuses on end-to-end delivery for the Japan entity (approx. 820 employees, single legal entity), covering implementation, migration, Go-Live, and Hyper Care.

While SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Payroll (Japan) is the target system, SAP experience is NOT mandatory. Professionals with solid Japan Payroll and HR / Payroll system implementation experience from other platforms are very welcome.

This is a consulting-style role where you will bridge Japan-specific payroll regulations and global HR technology.

Project Overview

  • System: SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Payroll (Japan)
  • Scope Country: Japan (parallel global rollout ongoing)
  • Employees: ~820
  • Payroll Cycle: Monthly
  • Current Vendor: Domestic Japan payroll provider
  • Key Scope:
  • Year-to-Date (YTD) data migration (salary, tax, social insurance)
  • Year-end adjustment (Nenmatsu Chosei)
  • Statutory reporting (withholding slips, etc.)
  • Timeline:
  • Implementation: ~7–8 months
  • Hyper Care: ~6 weeks

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support requirements definition, business process design, and system design for Japan Payroll
  • Advise on process improvements related to Payroll / HR system implementation
  • Support data migration (including YTD), testing, Go-Live, and Hyper Care
  • Collaborate closely with global PMs and overseas consultants
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders across Japan and global teams
  • Proactively manage issues, risks, and project communication

Required Qualifications

  • Strong hands-on knowledge of Japan Payroll operations, such as:
  • Payroll calculation
  • Year-end adjustment
  • Social insurance
  • Tax / withholding
  • Experience with HR or Payroll system implementation, operation, or vendor coordination
  • SAP experience is not required
  • Business-level Japanese (client-facing communication required)
  • Experience working in system implementation or project-based environments

Nice to Have

  • Experience with SAP SuccessFactors ECP / SAP Payroll / SAP HCM
  • Background in Payroll vendors, BPO providers, or consulting firms
  • Exposure to global or multi-country projects
