We are seeking a Mid-Level Interior Designer to join our Tokyo team and lead interior design projects from concept through completion.
This role is suited to a designer who can operate independently across all project stages while collaborating closely with internal teams, consultants, and clients.
Role OverviewYou will be responsible for delivering interior design projects across, but not limited to, corporate office and hospitality environments. The role spans concept design, design development, tender documentation, and site supervision, with on-site coordination conducted in Japanese.
Strong design judgment, technical rigor, and the ability to make informed decisions during both design and construction phases are essential.
Key ResponsibilitiesOwn projects from inception to completion, including concept design, space planning (block plans, test fits, floor plans), design development, tender drawing packages, and site supervision
Work on global corporate office design projects in Japan and Southeast Asia, as well as hospitality projects in Japan.
Working knowledge of MEP systems, with experience coordinating and integrating MEP requirements into interior layouts and details
Apply working knowledge of local codes and regulations (fire, accessibility, etc.) and reflect requirements accurately in drawings, in coordination with the technical lead
Develop detailed interior and millwork designs, from overall schemes to joinery detailing, specialist hardware, and constructability considerations
Coordinate and manage external consultants (MEP, kitchen, art), ensuring alignment with design intent, budget, and schedule
Select, specify, and coordinate FF&E, with strong knowledge of domestic manufacturers and the ability to propose suitable VE alternatives
Produce and coordinate wayfinding and signage packages, integrating graphic intent with architectural constraints
Manage and guide design associates, maintaining design standards, quality, and delivery timelines
Participate in design and site decision-making, with a basic understanding of contracts and RFP language
Required Profile
Strong creative design sensibility, with the ability to translate concepts into buildable, well-resolved interiors
Bilingual Japanese / English (spoken and written)
Tokyo-based; this position is not fully remote
Proven experience delivering interior design projects across all phases
Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp and Adobe Creative Suite
Solid understanding of construction detailing, coordination, and site processes
Working knowledge of MEP systems and their integration within interior design
Ability to work independently while collaborating within multidisciplinary teams
Bicultural background or heritage is very welcome
