The Role
Veeva's Legal Team is seeking an employment attorney to join our collaborative legal team. As a high performer, you will lead the employment law function for the APAC Region, providing counsel and advice in all aspects of the employment relationship and managing a portfolio of contentious matters.
What You'll Do
- Provide advice and counsel to the APAC Employee Success Team (HR) on all aspects of employment law.
- Draft and negotiate employment-related agreements, including severance agreements.
- Coordinate with internal and external subject matter experts, including external counsel, when needed, and manage employment-related litigation.
- Assist with other corporate initiatives as required (e.g., M&A, commercial, and compliance matters).
- Travel in the Region to attend court with external counsel where necessary and to develop and maintain relationships with business partners.
- Support the continuous improvement of internal processes.
- Keep up to date with new developments in employment legislation and advise HR of any necessary changes.
- Establish and build good working relationships with senior APAC leadership and other internal clients based on mutual trust and respect, as well as knowledge of the company's business, needs, and goals.
- Develop and execute a legal strategy for the Region.
Requirements
- 7+ years experience practicing employment law in a reputable law firm and/or in-house for a corporation.
- Proven experience working in ambiguous situations, thoughtful but business-minded, adaptable to different approaches, and comfortable with risk.
- Experience with different kinds of employment issues (e.g., wage and hour, dismissals, compensation, discipline, works councils, and unions).
- Experience managing employment disputes (e.g., litigation) in more than one major APAC country.
- A confident and positive lawyer with experience providing advice and counsel in all employment matters, including hiring, discipline, and dismissals, drafting employment-related documents, and leading assigned projects to positive conclusions.
- Strong aptitude towards drafting documents, emails, and anything else in a very precise manner, while still being concise and digestible for non-lawyers. Attention to detail is a must.
- Ability to successfully work independently but also able to use good judgment and escalate issues when needed.
- Fluent in written and spoken English.
Nice to Have
- Experience providing advice in multiple jurisdictions.
- Demonstrated understanding of the Asia landscape and country/culture differences across China, Japan, Korea, AUNZ, India, and Singapore.
- Some additional language skills - Chinese or Japanese preferred.
