Role Overview

The Director of Operations will own the operational heart of Kammui.

This is a senior, hands-on role for someone who has helped
build—not just run—a premium travel or experience business

through a period of growth. You will lead reservations and trip management while designing the systems, standards, and operating rhythm that allow the business to scale without losing precision, creativity, or care.

You will work closely with the Founder and a young, high-potential team, balancing day-to-day execution with long-term operational architecture.

Key ResponsibilitiesEnd-to-End Trip Operations

• Own the full lifecycle of a guest journey: inquiry → confirmation → planning → delivery → post-trip
• Oversee highly bespoke, complex itineraries with multiple stakeholders and high expectations
• Ensure seamless coordination across internal teams, guides, partners, and suppliers
• Act as the operational point of accountability for delivery excellence

Team Leadership & Development

• Lead and mentor a growing operations team, setting clear standards and expectations
• Remain closely involved day-to-day while developing future team leads
• Recruit, onboard, and train new team members as volume and complexity increase
• Foster a culture of excellence, ownership, and problem-solving

Systems, Process & Structure

• Build, document, and continuously refine SOPs across reservations and trip management
• Design workflows that support bespoke travel at scale without sacrificing quality
• Select, implement, and optimize operational tools (CRM, booking systems, internal dashboards)
• Create clarity and consistency without unnecessary bureaucracy

Quality Control & Guest Experience

• Serve as the final operational steward of the guest experience
• Manage exceptions, last-minute changes, and on-the-ground issues with discretion and confidence
• Ensure every operational touchpoint reflects a premium, considered brand

Scaling & Strategic Partnership

• Partner closely with the Founder on capacity planning and growth strategy
• Anticipate operational pressure points before they emerge
• Support new product development and strategic partnerships from an operational perspective

Qualifications

• 7–10+ years' experience in operations within luxury travel, adventure travel, hospitality, or experience-led businesses
• Proven experience in a growing company where systems were built from scratch or meaningfully evolved
• Deep understanding of reservations, logistics, and bespoke itinerary management
• A natural leader who enjoys coaching and developing younger team members
• Exceptionally organized, detail-oriented, and calm under pressure
• Fluent in English; Japanese proficiency strongly preferred
• Drawn to businesses that value discretion, craft, and long-term brand equity over volume
