We are looking for a Senior Underwriter for Marin Cargo, based in Tokyo, Japan.

We leverage our deep understanding of the local market and regulatory environment to rovide accurate and timely insights. The Impact You Will Have
You will report to the Regional Head of Marine, and the Underwriting Division Manager in Japan.

Some Of Your Specific Responsibilities Could Include

• Establish and a develop a new Marine book of business in Japan.
• Underwrite a profitable book of business.
• Negotiate participation, pricing, and terms and conditions.
• Take ownership of accounts and clients.
• Develop and maintain relationships with brokers, agents, clients and stakeholders.
• Underwrite accounts to meet top and bottom line targets.
• Manage capacity proactively.
• Evaluate Natural Catastrophe Accumulation and understand catastrophe modeling.
• Ensure contract certainty at inception.
• Utilize global pricing tools accurately.
• Support policy administration and credit control processes.
• Drive acquisition of new business and retention of existing business.
• Engage in client and broker negotiations as necessary.
• Liaise on market management initiatives.
• Represent Allianz Commercial positively in the market.
• Involve functional areas in the underwriting process.

What You'll Bring To The Role

• Proven track record in Underwriting profitable business in Marine.
• Understanding of Marine products and portfolio.
• Demonstrable, established relationships with brokers at peer group level.
• Good understanding of regional insurance markets and competitor landscape
• Understanding of legal and regulatory framework.
• Experience working in complex, global matrix organization.
• Risk Assessment and Management: Ability to assess risk inherent exposures and natural hazards relevant to LoB.
• Pricing and Market mangement: Analyze current performance against benchmarks applying how the market operates and functions, the business needs and customer needs.
• Policy Management: Robust understanding of policy administration life cycle, information collection, policy issuance, premium bookings, credit control, cancellation.
• Communication skills: Clearly and effectively express ideas and messages via speech or writing.
• Influencing skills: Ability to persuade and motivate others to act, without executive authority.
• Analytical skills: Ability to effectively absorb information from various sources, then analyze, study or examine data in detail, and draw appropriate conclusions.
• Languages: English and Japanese.
• Proficiency in AI skills: The ability to leverage AI tools to support daily tasks, enhance efficiency, and contribute to data-driven decision-making is highly valuable.
