Chief Strategy Officer (CSO)
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) to work closely with the executive leadership team of a global company in a growth phase. This role is responsible for shaping and executing the company's long-term corporate strategy.
This is a highly critical position that leads strategic planning from a company-wide perspective and drives cross-functional execution across multiple business units.
The role is well suited for professionals who wish to leverage extensive experience in strategy consulting or corporate strategy and play a central role in executive-level decision-making.
Background of the Role
In anticipation of continued business growth, diversification, and global expansion, the company is strengthening its corporate strategy function and has established a new CSO position.
As a strategic partner to the executive team, the CSO will be responsible for maximizing long-term enterprise value.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and execution of company-wide mid- to long-term corporate strategies
- Provide strategic options based on in-depth analysis of markets, competitors, and business models
- Drive strategic initiatives such as new business launches, portfolio optimization, and creation of synergies across business units
- Serve as a key strategic partner to executive management and the board of directors by providing strategic insights and recommendations
- Lead the evaluation, negotiation support, and integration planning for M&A, strategic partnerships, and alliances
- Promote cross-functional collaboration across business, product, finance, legal, and technology teams
- Design strategic KPIs and manage progress toward strategic objectives
- Foster a culture of strategic thinking and execution across the organization and contribute to leadership development
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in a science or engineering discipline from a top-tier university (equivalent to Japan's former Imperial Universities, Waseda, Keio, or above)
- 10+ years of relevant experience in strategy consulting firms, investment banking, or corporate strategy roles within operating companies
- Proven track record of leading organizational transformation and mid- to long-term strategic initiatives
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to drive cross-functional teams
- Advanced Japanese communication skills English proficiency is a strong plus
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with global businesses or overseas operations
- Hands-on experience leading M&A or strategic alliance initiatives
- Strong understanding of technology, financial services, or platform-based business models
