Network Manager Job Description

The network manager is responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of the computer network. This includes ensuring that the network infrastructure is up and running, as well as providing support to users. The network manager will work with other departments to ensure that the network meets their needs. One must be able to troubleshoot problems and have a good understanding of networking concepts.

The network manager will report to the IT director. The network manager will work with a team of network administrators and engineers to ensure that the network is running smoothly. Will also work with vendors to purchase networking equipment and software.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and maintain the network infrastructure for the organization.
  • Plan and coordinate network upgrades, expansions, and security measures.
  • Ensure that all network hardware and software is up-to-date and running smoothly.
  • Monitor network usage and performance, using tools such as packet sniffers and traffic analyzers.
  • Generate reports on network utilization and performance.
  • Troubleshoot network problems when they occur.
  • Work with vendors to purchase new equipment and resolve technical issues.
  • Train staff on proper use of the network and its resources.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures related to network usage and security.
  • Stay up-to-date on advances in networking technology
  • Manage a team of network administrators and technicians.
  • Oversee the installation of new network hardware and software.
    • Good to have Skills and Qualifications
  • 7+ years' experience managing enterprise networks
  • CCNP or CCIE certification
  • In-depth knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of network security principles and best practices
  • Ability to manage projects from start to finish, within budget and timeline constraints
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Preferred Skills and Qualifications
  • 10+ years' experience managing enterprise networks
  • CCNA Security, CCNP Security, or CCIE Security certification
  • Experience with network virtualization technologies (VMware NSX, Cisco Nexus, etc.)
  • Experience with cloud networking technologies (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
