Area Sales Manager (Premium Wine and Spirits) - Japan (Fully Remote, Osaka base)
Salary: JP¥8,000,000 to JP¥10,000,000 base + 25% bonus + excellent benefits

The role
As Area Sales Manager, you will own day-to-day commercial execution in Japan. This is a hands-on role focused on importer programming, pricing, sales budget planning, and key account activation across on- and off-premise channels.
Key responsibilities
Co-develop and implement the annual sales plan with the Regional Sales Director
Manage importer relationships and deliver agreed programming and execution
Drive distribution, visibility, and sell-through across on-trade and off-trade
Monitor inventory, depletions, and SKU-level performance to prevent out-of-stock issues
Execute consumer activations (tastings, demos, promotions) and ensure strong in-market standards
Support sales and marketing budget planning and tracking
Implement pricing and shelf strategies in retail and key accounts
Ensure POS and display assets are deployed and aligned to active programmes
Attend importer planning and sales meetings and provide market feedback
Required experience
5+ years experience in beverage alcohol sales in Japan
Japanese and English fluency (spoken and written)
Strong understanding of importer programming, pricing structures, and sales budget planning
Proven success activating premium alcohol brands in Japan across on-trade and off-trade
Key requirement: experience working with Pernod Ricard Japan teams or stakeholders (please highlight in your CV)
Strong organisation, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
Self-motivated, comfortable in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment
Driver's licence and willingness to travel regionally as required
Nice to have
- Existing relationships with wholesalers and major customers in Japan
Working pattern
Full-time, Monday to Friday (Japan business hours), with flexibility for customer needs and occasional evening or weekend activations.

Looking for:
5+ years commercial experience in beverage alcohol sales in Japan (wine and/or spirits), with proven results in distribution, visibility and sell-through.
Strong understanding of importer programming, pricing structures, trade terms and annual sales/budget planning.
Experience managing or influencing importer and distributor relationships and executing joint business plans.
Proven capability across both on-trade and off-trade channels (key accounts, wholesalers, activations, and merchandising).
Japanese and English fluency (spoken and written), able to communicate with local customers and international stakeholders.
Essential: experience working with Pernod Ricard Japan teams/stakeholders (e.g., joint planning, account execution, field coordination). Please highlight examples in your CV.
Strong negotiation, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.
Self-motivated and organised, comfortable working remotely with high autonomy; willing to travel in Japan as required.

Working pattern: Full-time, Mon-Fri (Japan business hours). Flexibility is expected for customer visits and occasional evening or weekend activations.
休暇・休日:
Standard days off are Saturday and Sunday, plus Japanese national holidays. Paid annual leave is provided in line with Japanese labour law and company policy. Due to the nature of on-trade activations, occasional evening or weekend work may be required; time off in lieu (or equivalent adjustment) will be provided.
勤務地:
Work location: Fully remote (work from home) anywhere in Japan, with Tokyo as the base for market coverage and meetings as required. Business travel within Japan is required for key account visits, importer meetings and activations.
Workplace measures: As the role is remote, work is primarily from home. When visiting customers, importers or event venues, the employee will follow each site's second-hand smoke prevention measures and local rules.
アクセス:
Access: Not applicable (fully remote/work from home anywhere in Japan). Travel within Japan is required for key account visits, importer meetings and activations. Transportation expenses for approved business travel will be covered in line with company policy.
Reporting/communication: Reports to the Japan sales management team. Day-to-day communication via WhatsApp group and online meetings. Head office is in Chicago. Attendance at an annual company conference is required (location to be confirmed each year).
給与:
Salary: JP¥8,000,000 to JP¥10,000,000 per year (base) + performance bonus up to 25% + car allowance + benefits.
Overtime: This role is treated as a managerial/professional position; overtime is not separately paid and is managed in line with Japanese labour law and company policy.
