The Compliance Manager will be an integral part of the team in Japan, reporting to the Head of Risk and Compliance based in the UK. This role presents an exhilarating challenge to enhance the governance, risk, and compliance framework while navigating the intricacies of Japanese regulations. As the business evolves and expands, the successful candidate will ensure the compliance of the Japanese entity, a proud member of the JCA and licensed by METI as a premier payment acquirer.
About You:
- An experienced professional with a background in technology-led environments, eager to leverage their skills in the fast-paced payments industry.
- Deep knowledge of METI and ISA-related payment regulations, along with a passion for staying ahead of the curve in compliance.
- A legal or paralegal background in contract management and review is a strong asset that will help navigate complex regulatory landscapes.
Responsibilities:
- Spearhead the onboarding of new merchants while conducting proactive reviews of existing partnerships, ensuring compliance is always a top priority.
- Take charge of regulatory requests and filings, expertly managing audits and inquiries with precision and professionalism.
- Stay ahead of the game by monitoring relevant regulatory changes in Japan, translating those requirements into actionable internal policies and procedures.
- Craft and maintain a dynamic compliance manual, leading engaging training sessions to keep the team aligned and informed.
- Serve as the go-to expert for internal and external partners on all things related to Japanese regulatory matters, fostering strong collaborative relationships.
- Cultivate positive working relationships with Japanese regulators, positioning the company as a trusted partner in compliance.
- Oversee internal and external compliance audits, ensuring smooth inspections by relevant regulators with confidence and clarity.
- Manage the renewal process for payment licenses in Japan, ensuring no detail is overlooked.
- Partner closely with business stakeholders to develop a risk and compliance framework that is both relevant and practical, aligning with the company's strategic goals.
- Collaborate with the Group Head of Risk and Compliance to conduct thorough audits of processes and controls, ensuring a culture of continuous improvement.
- Assist with corporate secretarial matters while liaising with external counsels and consultants to meet all compliance obligations.
Requirements:
- Fluent in Japanese (native) and advanced English, ensuring seamless communication across teams.
- A proven track record in an in-house legal or compliance department within a financial institution, such as a bank, fintech, or payments firm, showcasing expertise in the industry.
- Extensive experience working with Japanese regulatory authorities, demonstrating a knack for navigating complex compliance environments.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with a history of building positive relationships with stakeholders across various backgrounds and business cultures.
- Adaptability and resilience in a fast-paced, evolving business environment, with the ability to pivot and innovate as needed.
- Exceptional ability to translate regulatory requirements into practical business solutions that drive success.
