Project Engineer – Delivering Critical Marine Cable Infrastructure in Japan

We are hiring a
Project Engineer (Japan-based)
to support marine cable projects across Japan. This role involves hands-on site survey work, contractor management, and close coordination with local authorities and fishery unions to ensure smooth project execution.

You will be actively involved in technical reviews, installation planning, and on-site support, working closely with internal teams and external partners in Japan. This position is ideal for a
locally based Japanese engineer
who is familiar with local regulations, stakeholder coordination, and on-site project environments.

What You'll Do

  • Conduct site survey work at relevant cable landing locations in Japan.
  • Manage contractors for site surveys and installation work of shore-end and land cables.
  • Liaise with local authorities to secure required permits for project activities.
  • Coordinate with fishery unions on behalf of the cable owner to obtain consent for cable installation.
  • Review design drawings, mechanical layouts, and installation methods to ensure compliance with project specifications and standards.
  • Assist in preparing design proposals, mechanical calculations, and cost estimations.
  • Provide mechanical and technical support during project execution to ensure adherence to safety, quality, and engineering requirements.
  • Monitor project progress, track milestones, and assist in developing project schedules and execution plans.
  • Coordinate with internal departments, consultants, contractors, and vendors to ensure smooth project implementation.
  • Support troubleshooting and issue resolution during construction and installation phases.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including equipment specifications, design changes, and variation orders.

What you should have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 2–5 years of experience in mechanical, construction, or infrastructure engineering (preferably in telecommunication or marine-related projects).
  • Fresh graduates with a strong academic background are welcome to apply.
  • Knowledge or interest in subsea cable systems, marine operations, or telecommunication infrastructure is an advantage.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, technical drawings, and installation methods.
  • Good command of written and spoken English for effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent coordination, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to travel for project and site-related assignments.
  • A proactive, hands-on approach with the ability to work independently and within a team.

Salary Range:
JPY 250,000 – JPY400,000
