(i). Position/Job Grade

  • Associate / Senior Associate as Researcher/Documentation Specialist in Commercial Diligence, Transaction Support, Business Development Consulting practice in M&A advisory service.

(ii) Opportunity

Grant Thornton Advisors Japan (GTA) will establish Commercial Diligence / Transaction Support / Business Development advisory services, launched in 2024. This service line will hire professionals outside GTA as a "NEW" team.

(iii) Expected work in the Job

  • Primary/Secondary research execution – With direction and advice from Senior Professionals, conducted and executed market/industry/customer research/analysis work in commercial due diligence and business development consulting engagement with the clients.  (Not only cross-border but also Japanese domestic transactions)
  • Documentation – Based on direction and supervision from Senior Professionals, crafted PPT-style client reports, proposals, and marketing materials in Japanese and English. (Aligned with firm's global/local standard documentation rules)
  • Business Development and Marketing – proactively developing pitches and materials to pursue new opportunities, responsible for preparing proposals in response to client requests, supporting internal pursuit-related processes, and attending and actively contributing to business development meetings.
  • Team Development – Assist the team with liaison between Japan and US/UK/APAC practices at Grant Thornton (GT). And assist in developing local training modules/materials under the senior's instructions,

(iv). Skills / Qualifications

"Mandatory" requirements are:

  • Being a professional to the client and establishing yourself as a specialist in research and documentation, conduct primary/secondary research and consumer/professional survey for client engagement, proposal, and marketing materials, providing value to the client through insights based on robust research, survey results, and analysis.
  • Had the following proven technical skills/knowledge, under direction/supervision from the team's senior professional:

-- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a practical ability to help develop the management agenda and strategic roadmaps.

  • Ability to collect and utilize relevant business/industry information sources, including online database tools such as Nikkei Telecon, Capital IQ, and SPEEDA, then crystallize into a research report.

Ability to conduct expert interviews and consumer/expert surveys, utilizing interview companies and survey firms in Japanese/English

  • Analytical work experience, preferably gained in previous consulting experiences.

  • Ability to deliver research results, and to create our-style PPT documents against tight deadlines.

  • Strong people and communication skills (incl. Cross-functional collaboration.

  • Take responsibility for your own learning and development, coach (and learn from) others, and participate in upward feedback.

  • Be a team player who can build effective relationships at all levels in GT and with clients

-- Fluency in consulting-style PPT creation, analytics [Professional level]

-- Basic knowledge of corporate finance and strategy [Basic+ level]

"Nice to" requirements are:

  • CPA and/or CFA holders are most welcome.
  • Holders of the Master of Finance degree are also welcome.
  • Experiences in management consulting, FAS, and/or Investment Banking industry.
  • Experience in financial and commercial diligence.
  • Expertise in financial modeling
  • Fluency in languages other than English and Japanese

(v) Compensation

  • Compensation will be decided based on the candidate's skills and experience.
