We are supporting a leading global consumer goods company undergoing a major business transformation in Japan. They are looking to hire an experienced Legal Counsel to partner closely with local leadership and regional/global legal teams.
This role offers broad exposure to commercial, regulatory, and corporate matters in an international environment.
Key responsibilities
Act as a trusted legal partner to the Japan business, providing practical, business-focused legal advice
Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial and corporate agreements (English & Japanese)
Advise on regulatory, advertising, consumer protection, data privacy, and competition law matters
Work closely with APAC and global legal teams on cross-border initiatives
Support government and external stakeholder engagement alongside senior legal leadership
Identify legal risks early and propose pragmatic solutions aligned with business objectives
Key requirements
Japanese qualified lawyer (Bengoshi)
8+ years of legal experience (in-house and/or top-tier law firm preferred)
Strong experience with Japanese consumer, advertising, data privacy, and competition laws
Comfortable handling complex commercial contracts and regulatory issues
Business-minded, proactive, and able to operate in a fast-paced environment
Fluent in Japanese and English
