Marketplace Business is responsible for operating Rakuten Ichiba, the founding business of Rakuten.
Rakuten was established in 1997, and Rakuten Ichiba, which has continued to grow to this day, embodies Rakuten's mission of "empowering people and society through innovation." It has created a system that allows individuals skilled in business to easily open their own stores, transcending the limitations of traditional commercial areas, and has brought the joy of shopping to users across Japan.
Today, it has grown into one of the largest e-commerce sites in Japan, with over 50,000 stores (as of November 2024) and more than 100 million user accounts, serving a vast number of users.

Department Overview
We are developing Rakuten Sokuhai Mart, a service specializing in daily necessities, on Rakuten Ichiba, Japan's largest online shopping mall.
Rakuten Ichiba is a mall-type business that provides a platform for merchants to sell their products themselves, while our service is a direct sales business in which Rakuten selects and purchases products from national manufacturers and handles everything from marketing, sales, shipping, and customer support.
Rakuten Sokuhai Mart responds to the needs of customers who want to buy daily necessities more conveniently and at a good price by offering a service that allows customers to purchase single items at a good price and delivers as soon as the same day. It is expected to lead the growth of the daily necessities category of Rakuten Ichiba in cooperation with Rakuten24, another service that also specializes in daily necessities.
We have just finished the business launch phase, and are currently making large-scale investments in expanding the number of products, investing in marketing, and strengthening the system and logistics platform in order to achieve our ambitious mid-term goals.

Why We Hire
As lifestyles change and e-commerce demand expands due to the effects of COVID-19, national manufacturers have high hopes for the growth of Rakuten's daily necessities e-commerce. Our company is also continuing to make large-scale investments with the aim of achieving ambitious mid-term goals, and is promoting strategic projects with the themes of new service development and value chain transformation.
For this position, we are looking for an individual who has the discretion to plan and promote strategic projects aimed at mid-term growth of the business.
Position Details
In order to increase sales and profits, you will analyze issues in various areas and be responsible for all phases of consideration, execution, and verification. Recently, we are considering reforms in the following back-end areas. In particular, there is a large white space in the procurement and logistics areas, and we expect this to contribute greatly to the medium-term growth of the business.
- Strengthening and integrating the value chain in the procurement and logistics areas through horizontal expansion of success stories from other daily necessities EC services (Rakuten24, etc.)
- Strengthening the system and service operation platform to more effectively realize same-day delivery
- Planning, developing, and improving new logistics services through strategic collaboration with national brands
- Improving the service level of user support to improve customer satisfaction
- Competitive analysis of the daily necessities EC industry
- Improving the productivity of various back-end area operations
- Various project management
In an organization managed by managers who have experience in reforms in each area of the back-end, you can accumulate knowledge and experience of the value chain such as procurement/logistics together, even if you do not have specific knowledge or experience.
This is also a position where you can hone your overall ability in promoting the business. This program allows you to gain experience not only in strategy planning, but also throughout the execution phase.

Mandatory Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in strategy/service planning at a consulting firm or business company
- Basic knowledge of the daily necessities retail industry and EC
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience in service planning in the daily necessities industry
- Experience in analysis and planning using Power Point and Excel (experience using vlookup and pivot)
