Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Venture Partner (Japan Business Development) to represent Scale Asia Ventures in Japan.

This role will serve as our on-the-ground liaison between Tokyo and Palo Alto, helping the firm strengthen fundraising relationships, develop strategic corporate partnerships, and identify co-investment opportunities in Japan's tech ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities
Fundraising & LP Relations


  • Engage Japanese institutional investors, family offices, and CVCs for participation in Scale Asia Ventures' Fund II / Fund III.
  • Support LP communications, due diligence processes, and capital introductions.
  • Build and maintain trusted, long-term relationships with Japanese conglomerates and financial groups.
Corporate Partnership & Business Development


  • Drive business development collaboration between SAV portfolio companies and Japanese corporates (e.g., distribution, strategic investment, JV, or technology adoption).
  • Map and cultivate relationships with innovation arms of major Japanese groups.
  • Help facilitate strategic pilots and co-development projects between Japan corporates and SAV startups.
Market & Ecosystem Development


  • Provide insights to the Palo Alto team on Japan's tech, AI, and industrial landscape.
  • Support deal sourcing in Japan where relevant, particularly around enterprise AI, robotics, and automation.
  • Represent SAV at key Japan events and ecosystem gatherings.
Qualifications


  • Based in Tokyo with extensive networks in Japan's corporate and investment ecosystem.
  • 10+ years of experience in venture capital, investment banking, or corporate strategy / innovation roles.
  • Deep understanding of Japan's corporate governance and business culture.
  • Proven track record of originating and managing strategic partnerships or LP relationships.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Japanese and English.
  • Entrepreneurial, globally minded, and able to work autonomously with a Palo Alto–based team.
