ABOUT THE ROLE:
- Function: Investments
- Business Division : Renewable Power & Transition
- Lead the identification, assessment and execution of investment opportunities (acquisition and disposition) in the renewable power and energy transition sectors, including investments in industrial and hard-to-abate GHG emissions sectors in Japan and the broader Asia-Pacific region.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
I. Investment Strategy & Origination
- The person will drive firm growth in the Asia-Pacific region by identifying, developing, and prioritizing new investment opportunities in the renewable power and energy transition sectors, with a primary focus on the Japanese market.
- Strategy Development: Lead comprehensive industry and market research to inform the investment strategy and pinpoint attractive transaction opportunities in Japan and the broader APAC region.
- Business Sourcing: Network extensively to cultivate new investment ideas, support the continuous growth of the business, and help implement the overall business development strategy.
- Thesis Formulation: Conduct fundamental company and industry research to support the core investment thesis, identify clear value creation strategies, and assist in developing viable transaction and deal structures.
II. Transaction Leadership & Execution
- The person will take full ownership of the transaction lifecycle for both acquisitions and divestments, ensuring meticulous due diligence, robust financial analysis, and effective stakeholder management.
- End-to-End Deal Leadership: Lead cross-functional teams through all stages of a transaction, serving as the primary interface for internal functional partners (Tax, Legal, Finance, Operations) as well as external counterparties and advisors.
- Due Diligence & Financial Modeling: Oversee the due diligence process to validate the business case, identify critical transaction risks, and ensure the integrity of the financial and valuation analysis. This requires superior financial modeling and problem-solving skills.
- Negotiation & Documentation: Take the lead in structuring, negotiating deal terms, and finalizing all definitive transaction documentation.
- Stakeholder Presentation: Lead the preparation and delivery of clear, concise, and articulate investment materials for presentation to senior internal committees and external stakeholders.
III. Portfolio Management & Team Leadership
- The person will ensure long-term value creation across portfolio companies while actively managing and developing the investment team.
- Portfolio Oversight: Strategically monitor the ongoing financial and operational performance of investments, working closely with management teams to execute strategic business initiatives and maximize long-term value across the platform.
- Talent Management: Manage, mentor, and coach junior investment professionals, providing constructive and timely feedback to foster talent development and ensure high-quality team outcomes.
- External Ambassadorship: Act as a strong, professional representative of the firm externally, upholding the company's reputation and long-term focus on people and investments.
REQUIREMENTS:

Technical Expertise & Deal Execution
- Transaction Leadership: Proven track record of successfully leading the end-to-end execution of complex transactions (acquisitions and divestments), guiding cross-functional teams and external advisors.
- Financial Acumen: Superior financial modeling, valuation, and due diligence capabilities. Must ensure meticulous analysis to support and validate the investment thesis.
- Regional Experience: Significant exposure to the infrastructure and/or renewable industry in Japan is essential, with an understanding of local market dynamics and regulatory frameworks.
- Global Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to seamlessly collaborate with deal team members located across various geographies and time zones.

- Team Mobilization: Strong leadership ability to manage, coach, and develop investment talent while exercising sound and thoughtful judgment to empower and mobilize a team toward successful outcomes.

- Driving Initiatives: Experience in presenting complex analyses to senior leaders and the capacity to lead and drive initiatives forward independently.
