Position Overview

We are seeking a Principal level distribution candidate to represent Apollo in Japan HNW/ Global Wealth channels onshore to be based in our Tokyo office. This individual report to our head of APAC Global Wealth Management Edward Moon based in Singapore. Our current APAC Global Wealth coverage model is offshore across Hong Kong and Singapore, with assistance from our existing Institutional Client Group team onshore. Aim is to have one dedicated Japan Wealth channel person in Tokyo in near term. Individual will be supported by one Client Service Associate as a shared resource with Institutional Client Group, who can help with client onboarding and subsequent enquiries.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Principal will be responsible for building the GWM business in Japan which is represents two key strategic priorities for Apollo (the GWM business and Japan as a key strategic market)
  • Full responsibility for the servicing existing clients and partners, onboarding new distributors and leading the sales and distribution activities in Japan, ranging from asset raising to managing and maintaining the relationships with clients
  • Work in close coordination with, and set directives for, Apollo's Japan global wealth sales strategy to ensure sufficient investor outreach and the strategic fundraise objectives for each fund/strategy are being met
  • Proactively deepen and broaden relationships with key distributors in Japan, global investment consultants where relevant, and work closely with the Firm's investment professionals and other members of GWM to share feedback from investors
  • Play a leadership role within the Apollo Japan business, working alongside other senior professionals focused on private wealth / HNW distribution, domestic private equity investing, and strategic insurance activities
  • Will support the business development and growth of various business lines within Apollo

    • Qualifications & Experience

  • 10-15 years of prior experience, preferably within an alternative asset management firm, investment bank, or investment consulting firm
  • Excellent knowledge of the Japan retail distribution landscape, with a demonstrable track record of success raising assets from Japanese HNW investors and managing relationships with senior level contacts in these organizations, with a results-oriented, profit-driven mentality
  • Sound understanding of alternatives, particularly credit and the ability to advise investors strategically on their investments needs, building a strong relationship of trust over time
  • Strong leadership capabilities with experience in managing high performing teams through natural authority and gravitas
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with colleagues, partners, and clients to operate within the 'One Apollo' mind-set, an environment without silos where cooperation and coordination is vital to success
  • Advisor mindset, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Understand complex clients' needs and be able to engage on asset allocation strategy. Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of a broad range of Alternative products and their related investment philosophies and disciplines
  • An enthusiastic self-starter with a proactive and hands-on approach. High energy and drive, and comfort with working in a lean, fast-paced environment, demonstrating a willingness to 'roll up their sleeves'
  • A strong compliance culture and commitment to adhere to and embrace internal compliance policies
