Overview
A leading global data centre developer and operator is seeking a Project Director to provide hands-on leadership for its Japan Project Management Team.
The team is responsible for the design, engineering, and construction of mission-critical data centre facilities, including buildings and M&E infrastructure that support IT, computing, network, and voice services.
Reporting to the Head of Development and Delivery in Japan, the Project Director will oversee resource planning, workload management, performance tracking, and skills development across the project management organisation.
The role requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams and make sure that high-quality project execution throughout the full life-cycle.Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise the Project Management Team, ensuring optimal workload balance, performance oversight, and professional development.
- Provide guidance and support to maintain high levels of motivation, efficiency, and technical performance across internal teams and external partners.
- Formulate and execute a comprehensive strategy for end-to-end project delivery across multiple concurrent data centre developments.
- Drive ownership and accountability for project milestones, proactively manage dependencies and risks, and ensure seamless coordination across disciplines.
- Oversee day-to-day on-site safety and quality assurance, maintaining rigorous standards throughout the delivery process.
- Review, maintain, and report on project schedules and budgets, producing accurate and timely updates aligned with internal requirements and customer obligations.
- Apply strong commercial judgement in major procurement decisions, optimising both cost and long-term total cost of ownership.
- Manage external stakeholder relationships (customers, contractors, consultants, and suppliers etc)
Strong experience in mission-critical data centre development, construction, or related large-scale infrastructure projects
Candidate must be proficient in Japanese and English
Proven track record in managing multidisciplinary project teams and delivering complex programmes in Japan.
Strong communication skills, leadership presence, and the ability to influence diverse internal and external stakeholders.
