仕事内容:
The Montessori School of Tokyo (MST) is seeking a warm, reliable, bilingual (English/Japanese) full-time Classroom Assistant for an immediate start in our Upper Elementary (9–12) programme.
The assistant will support the daily functioning of the Willow Classroom, helping maintain a smooth, focused learning environment by protecting teaching time, assisting students with materials and practical needs, and contributing positively to classroom life.
This is not a teaching role, but a key support position. We are looking for someone who enjoys working with children, communicates clearly in both languages, and is calm, dependable, and takes pride in being helpful, organised and hands-on.
The ideal candidate enjoys being part of a busy, purposeful classroom; helps things run smoothly behind the scenes; likes practical, hands-on tasks; and takes pride in being organised and dependable. They value a child-centred, respectful approach, communicate clearly in both English and Japanese, and are excited to learn more about Montessori while contributing to a positive learning community.
Responsibilities
Daily Classroom Support
- Assist students with practical tasks (e.g., gathering materials, locating resources, assembling project supplies).
- Answer student questions about where things are and how to access materials while protecting teachers' lesson time.
- Support smooth transitions during the day and help maintain a calm, productive learning environment.
Classroom Management & Community Support
- Help keep the class "humming" during work periods by ensuring students can access what they need without disrupting lessons.
- Model appropriate work habits (e.g., quiet focus, purposeful engagement).
- Maintain a supportive and respectful presence – assisting, not policing.
Hands-on Practical Projects
When students are settled, the assistant may engage in classroom projects such as:
- Bookmaking, simple arts and crafts, or creating classroom materials
- Small self-initiated work that can serve as a model for children
- Light gardening on the balcony
- Fish care or other small classroom responsibilities
No prior skills required—guidance will be provided. A willingness to be hands-on is appreciated.
Student Supervision & Safety
- Supervise recess and other duty periods as scheduled.
- Accompany small groups on Going Outs, short excursions, and local trips when needed.
- Provide additional supervision support during larger events or Forest Campus sessions.
Classroom Organisation & Materials
- Assist with organising materials, maintaining storerooms, and keeping classroom resources in order.
- Help replenish supplies and ensure key items are ready for students.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Essential:
- Strong spoken and written Japanese.
- Strong spoken and written English (working proficiency required; native-level clarity desirable).
- A calm, reliable, and collaborative working style.
- A helpful, practical approach to supporting children and teachers.
- Ability to take direction well and work as part of a team.
- Ability to supervise children safely both indoors and outdoors.
Desirable:
- Bilingual or bicultural background (Japan + international context).
- Interest in Montessori or other alternative/child-centred education approaches.
- Hands-on or creative skills: crafting, simple making/building, bookmaking, gardening, etc.
- Experience working with children or in a school environment.
Additional Notes
Montessori training is not required, but openness to Montessori principles is essential. Training and guidance will be provided by the Willow teaching team. This position is also well suited to individuals early in their education career, and we especially welcome bicultural applicants and MST alumni.
