OPERATIONS MANAGER
People Make Places is a luxury travel design company based in Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan. We are recruiting an Operations Manager oversee live trips and support our customers while they are traveling in Japan.
The Operations Manager works in both English and Japanese, supporting our customers (who mostly speak English) and the Travel Designers who service them, and our Japanese partners (hotels, guides, drivers, restaurants, etc.). The Operations Manager's primary role is to ensure the trip goes according to plan, while also adapting the itinerary in response new requests and unexpected events. Resourcefulness, problem solving, creative thinking under pressure, and a can-do attitude are all important skills that will be required to do this job successfully.
This job requires irregular hours and flexible working, because customer needs don't only happen during office hours. Responding to issues during the evenings and on weekends will be necessary, and such work will be compensated.
QUALIFICATIONS
This post requires:
- A positive and receptive attitude to receiving questions and challenges
- Confidence working in English and Japanese
- Professional communication skills when talking to suppliers in Japan (spoken and written Japanese)
- Empathy with non-Japanese nationals traveling in Japan
- Passion for customer service and creating wonderful experiences
- A love for Japan and a desire to communicate Japanese culture to the outside world
- An ability to respond to sudden changes and unforeseen events with calmness and creativity
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must:
- Speak, read and write native-level Japanese (a written and spoken Japanese language test is part of the application process)
- Have a proven track record working in the luxury travel industry
- Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
- Be willing to travel to our office in Shibuya Ward in Tokyo, which is the primary place of work, when needed
- Have the right to work in Japan (visa sponsorship is not available)
- Be able to supply written references from two previous employers, including one from the luxury travel industry
