MCG Talent is partnering with a global digital agency to recruit a Paid Media Director to lead their Paid Media division in Japan.
This senior leadership role sits within the broader APAC team and offers the exciting opportunity to lead and scale a growing team of talented Paid Media specialists, while championing innovation and next-generation digital strategies across paid channels.
Key ResponsibilitiesLead, inspire, and develop a high-calibre team of local and international Paid Media professionals, fostering their growth and potential.
Cultivate an inclusive, collaborative team culture that effectively unites onshore and offshore members to deliver seamless results.
Provide hands-on coaching, structured mentorship, regular performance reviews, and tailored individual career development plans to drive team success.
Define and execute the strategic vision for Paid Media in the Japanese market, ensuring strong alignment with global and regional priorities.
Establish and implement best-in-class processes for campaign management, client servicing, and operational efficiency.Build and maintain trusted, long-term relationships with key clients, internal stakeholders, and major platform partners (Google, Meta, Yahoo Japan, Amazon, and others).
Monitor and drive team performance against critical KPIs, deliver insightful reporting to senior leadership, and continuously optimise campaign strategies to maximise ROI.
What We're Looking For10+ years of progressive experience in Paid Media Advertising, with a strong preference for candidates who have thrived in a high-performing agency environment.
Bilingual fluency in Japanese and English (essential for client leadership and internal collaboration in Japan).Deep, proven expertise working directly with Japanese clients, coupled with a strong understanding of the local media landscape, consumer behaviour, and platform dynamics.
Demonstrated success in leading and scaling high-performing digital marketing / Paid Media teams in fast-paced, agile organisations.Comfortable and effective operating in matrixed, cross-functional, and cross-market structures, with experience driving alignment across regional and global teams.
Comprehensive expertise across core paid channels: Paid Search, Paid Social, Programmatic Display & Video, and Retail Media.
Strong hands-on mastery of Google Marketing Platform tools (Search Ads 360, Display & Video 360, Campaign Manager 360).
Strategic thinker with the ability to translate high-level vision into clear, executable plans and measurable outcomes.
Exceptional leadership presence combined with outstanding interpersonal, communication, stakeholder management, organisational, and analytical capabilities.
