The Patent Legal Assistant handles patent prosecution with a focus on preparing and filing new applications, information disclosure statements, Preliminary Amendments, allowance review, paying Issue fees, and responding to formality issues with the USPTO.
The position requires a keen eye for detail, excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize workload, ability to communicate well (in Japanese and English) with clients and other members of the team, anticipate needs and identify solutions to problems.
This position will report to the Practice Manager and Tokyo Office Manager and may be called upon to support other practice areas, as necessary.
Key Roles & Responsibilities - Duties may include but not limited to:Prepare and file New Application
Review and respond to client correspondence and preparation of formal documents including Declarations, Substitute Statements, Assignments, Powers of Attorney.
Prepare and file Information Disclosure Statements including determination of fee or certification requirements.
Review and process formalities including Official Filing Receipts, Notices of Publication, Missing Parts.
Preparation of reporting letters and invoices.
Reporting USPTO notifications
Communicate with Patent Attorney and filing Response to the USPTO.
Handling prosecution, from office action to paying issue fee.
Minimum Experience - This position requires a minimum of at least two years of patent prosecution experience required. (domestic to foreign application preferred) Experienced with Microsoft Office Suite. Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
Special Skills and Knowledge - Learning the USPTO patent process is required. Familiarity with Anaqua a plus. Mid-business level of English reading skill required. Speaking English skill preferred.
Teleworking is permitted up to 3 days a week. Need to have a productive environment.
First 3 months is the trial period.
