Industrial Designer - Product Designer
A fast-growing, globally active home and office furniture brand is looking for an experienced Product Designer to lead the design of products for the Japanese market, while also contributing to collections for North America and Europe.
This is a rare opportunity to join a design-driven manufacturer with international reach, in-house production, and global retail channels, where your ideas go directly from concept to mass-produced products sold worldwide.
Role Overview
You will be responsible for the design and development of furniture and home-living products, including office furniture, sofas, and home solutions, with a strong focus on Japanese users and aesthetics.
You will combine Japanese design sensibility with modern global lifestyle trends, working across the full product lifecycle — from concept design and CMF through to prototyping, engineering collaboration, and final production.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop global product ranges for:
- Office furniture
- Home furniture
- Lifestyle and ergonomic products
- Lead design for the Japanese market, while supporting products for the US, Germany, and wider Europe
- Translate Japanese design aesthetics and lifestyle needs into commercial, scalable products
- Own the full design process:
- Concept development
- Sketching & 3D modelling
- Rendering
- CMF (Colour, Material, Finish)
- Sample review and refinement
- Produce trend research, inspiration boards, and design reports for Japan and international markets
- Work closely with Product Managers, Engineers, Manufacturing and Supply Chain to ensure designs are feasible, cost-effective, and ready for mass production
- Support marketing and product launches through design storytelling and product positioning
- Gather user and market feedback to continuously improve design quality and user experience
- Maintain brand consistency across all product lines and participate in overall design direction
Required Experience & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Interior Design, Furniture Design or similar
- 3+ years' experience designing furniture, home products, or lifestyle products
- A portfolio showing products that have been launched to market
- Strong understanding of Japanese lifestyle, space usage, and consumer preferences
- Proficient in design software such as:
- Rhino
- KeyShot
- 3ds Max
- AutoCAD
- SketchUp
- Photoshop / Illustrator
- Strong ability to turn concepts into production-ready designs
- Good English communication skills
- Japanese-English bilingual preferred (Chinese a plus)
- Comfortable working in a cross-cultural, global design environment
- Willing to travel periodically to Asian manufacturing and development centres
