Job Description
We are seeking a talented and passionate Teppan-yaki Junior Sous Chef to join our esteemed culinary team in Tokyo, Japan. As a key member of our kitchen staff, you will assist in creating unforgettable dining experiences for our guests through your expertise in teppanyaki-style cooking and leadership skills.
- Assist the Head Chef and Sous Chef in overseeing daily kitchen operations, focusing on the teppanyaki station
- Prepare and cook a variety of dishes using teppanyaki techniques, ensuring high-quality presentation and taste
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the teppanyaki cooking area
- Train and mentor junior chefs in teppanyaki cooking methods and techniques
- Collaborate with the culinary team to develop new menu items and seasonal specials
- Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation standards
- Assist in inventory management and ordering of ingredients
- Participate in menu planning and cost control measures
- Provide excellent customer service by interacting with guests during teppanyaki performances
Qualifications
- Culinary degree or diploma from a recognized institution
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in teppanyaki cooking, preferably in a high-end restaurant or luxury hotel setting
- Strong knife skills and proficiency in teppanyaki cooking techniques
- In-depth knowledge of Japanese cuisine, ingredients, and culinary traditions
- Current food safety and sanitation certification (e.g., ServSafe)
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and work in a hot kitchen
- Strong leadership and mentoring abilities
- Fluency in English; Japanese language skills are highly desirable
- Work permission is Japan is necessary
- Previous experience as a sous chef or in a leadership role is preferred
- Passion for culinary innovation and commitment to delivering exceptional dining experiences
