We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Substation Designer to join our team at K&A Engineering in
Oakbrook, IL.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting and challenging projects that make a real impact in the energy and utility sectors. You'll be part of a dynamic, people-focused team where your expertise, ideas, and contributions will be valued and celebrated.
Role Expectations
- Prepare physical layout drawings for substations and produce electrical plans and sections as well as grounding and conduit drawings.
- Prepare bills of materials and review drawings and specifications.
- Responsibilities will include the preparation of the following substation drawings:
- Substation General Arrangement
- Substation AIS design
- Substation Electrical Equipment Plans
- Substation Section Views (Elevations)
- Substation Detailed Bill of Material
- Substation Grounding Plan
- Substation Conduit, Electrical Connection and Grounding Details
- Substation Below Grade Conduit/Raceway Plan
- Control Building Equipment, Cable Tray, Lighting, Grounding Plans and Section
What We're Looking For
- Experience 6+ years experience in utility substation design or EPC projects.
- A 2 year associates degree in engineering technology or drafting is preferred
- Deep understanding of substation physical design, protection/control design, and equipment specifications.
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar CAD tools.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, vendor data, and technical documents.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Pay Range $70,000-115,000/year
