About the Role
Chief Compliance Officer leads the company's compliance program and ensure adherence to all relevant Japanese financial regulations.
Reporting to the Head of Global Regulatory Entities (based in the U.S.), you will oversee compliance strategy, regulatory engagement, and risk management initiatives across the operations in Japan.
This is a senior leadership role that combines strategic planning, regulatory interpretation, and hands-on execution.You'll collaborate closely with legal, policy, and business teams both in Japan and globally to ensure that Square's fintech products and services remain compliant and trusted.
Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop, implement, and maintain compliance programs aligned with Japanese financial regulations.
Lead and mentor the Japan compliance team, fostering proactive risk management and professional growth.
Partner with global and regional stakeholders to align compliance initiatives across Block entities.
Review and approve new products, services, and marketing materials from a compliance perspective.
Manage communications and relationships with regulators; handle regulatory filings and examinations.
Oversee AML/CFT programs, transaction monitoring, and suspicious activity reporting.
Conduct regular risk assessments and ensure continuous improvement of compliance processes.
Qualifications
Fluent Japanese and business-level English proficiency.
Bachelor's degree in Law, Business, Finance, or related discipline.
10+ years of compliance experience in the financial services or fintech sector in Japan.
Strong understanding of Japanese financial and AML/CFT regulations.
Demonstrated leadership and project-management skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally.
Excellent analytical and communication skills; capable of translating complex regulations into practical guidance.
Legal Experience / qualifications are plus
