The Business Development Director is responsible for leading business development in Japan, a global context.
Key Responsibilities:
- Developing and implementing business strategies to drive growth
- Managing relationships with key partners and stakeholders
- Customer relationship management
- Administrative tasks such as budget planning and financial management
- Maintaining technical expertise and ensuring compliance with regulations
Primary Tasks & Activities:
Business Development:
- Identify opportunities for product and company acquisitions
- Nurture opportunities through engagement with brokers and companies
- Develop strategic partnerships to commercialize medicines
- Act as key contact with strategic partners and ensure smooth handover to project manager
- Lead contract development negotiations to maximize ROI
Partner Relationship Management:
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with partner companies and suppliers
- Attend partner meetings and product training
- Identify new business opportunities through partner relationships
- Take responsibility for assigned partner communications
- Ensure wholesaler/partner agreements are adhered to
Customer Relationship Management:
- Develop and leverage professional relationships with key customers and stakeholders
- Provide feedback to partners with customer intel
- Represent the organization in negotiations, conferences, seminars, and official occasions
Administration:
- Manage finances and input into budget planning process
- Ensure filing and documentation is compliant
- Complete required reports within designated timeframes
- Liaise with senior management and staff to ensure projects are conducted efficiently
Technical Expertise and Compliance:
- Maintain knowledge of regulatory environment and apply it in day-to-day activities
- Attend industry conferences to expand knowledge of therapeutic areas
- Understand issues affecting customers and patients
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and regulations
- Ensure Company-related activities comply with relevant Acts, legal demands, and ethical standards
Requirements:
- 10+ years' experience in healthcare environment
- 5+ years management/supervisory experience
- Tertiary qualification in science, business, or related field
- Budget & P&L management experience
- Knowledge of Japan regulatory framework
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, professional regulations, and codes of conduct
- Experience in market and asset analysis relating to medicines
- Outstanding influencing and negotiation skills
- Product knowledge
- Knowledge of GVP, GMP, GDP, and ISO9001
- Understanding of Japan reimbursement mechanisms
