About The Role

We are seeking a motivated Underwriting Associate to join our Tokyo office. This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with underwriters and global teams, managing international programs originating from Japan and working with other branches in various countries where we need to issue local policies.
We are looking for a professional with strong Japanese and English communication skills, and a proactive, customer-focused mindset who can work effectively in a team.
Key Responsibilities

- Provide technical advice on international program processes, compliance, and system usage to internal partners.
- Support business development and client relationship activities.
- Manage an allocated portfolio of accounts in collaboration with Customer and Distribution Managers and Underwriters.
- Build strong relationships with Underwriters, Clients/Brokers, and Swiss Re CorSo offices.
- Ensure International Programs are prepared, maintained, and completed per departmental standards.
- Develop in-depth knowledge of International Program lines of business; resolve queries, identify risks, and propose mitigation plans.
- Contribute to system/process improvements (e.g., Pulse testing and feedback).
- Act as a referral point and subject matter expert for areas such as Captives, Reinsurance, PULSE, and Finance Management.
- Manage workloads in line with Service Level Agreements.
- Participate in projects aimed at improving International Program Department processes.
- Serve as a key liaison, delivering exceptional service to internal and external customers via email, phone, and in-person interactions.
- Conduct preliminary deal analysis and prepare account data for underwriter or client manager review.
- Review and interpret detailed source documents from external customers; draft business correspondence as needed.
- Capture program details in systems, initiate policy requests, and coordinate with Underwriting Assistants to ensure timely issuance.
- Monitor workflows, follow up on outstanding items, and drive completion of documentation.
- Support in preparation of regulatory and rating bureau reports on international deals as required.
- Support Underwriters with analysis of policyholders' financial statements, industry trends, and company history to help determine coverage terms, conditions, and pricing.
- Input and maintain accurate data in underwriting systems and tools.
- Manage closings, statements, contract amendments, endorsements, and post-underwriting tasks throughout the policy lifecycle.
- Prepare and maintain policy documentation (electronic and physical) in line with internal guidelines.
- Support premium handling, including monitoring and follow-ups.
- Participate in and support ad-hoc operational projects.
- Perform any other underwriting-related tasks as needed to ensure full support for underwriters and smooth execution of International Program Business and FinPro-related work.
About You
- Associate's degree or equivalent experience; bachelor's degree a plus.
- Experience in P&C International Program Business preferred (2–4 years ideal), but candidates with relevant insurance or underwriting support experience will also be considered.
- Strong customer focus and service orientation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Outlook.
- Ability to work effectively in a global, matrix environment with cultural sensitivity.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to evaluate underwriting data and recommend solutions.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships across diverse teams.
- Demonstrated adaptability and willingness to learn new systems and processes.
