Amazon MGM Studios is the home for talent, creating and producing Original films and television series for a global audience. Original series premiere exclusively on Prime Video, which is available in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. Amazon MGM Studios also produces and acquires Original movies for theatrical release and exclusively for Prime Video.

We are currently seeking a Head of Scripted and Movies for our Local Originals initiative (based in Tokyo). This role will lead a team of creative executives responsible for overseeing the ongoing growth of Prime Video in Japan through developing a compelling slate of original movies and television series. The ideal candidate is a both a strong creative and strategic leader with the proven ability to manage teams across all content categories, all aspects of creative production, and is well-versed in solving day to day production problems as well as bigger strategic and regulatory issues relevant to the territory.

The desired candidate has strong creative acumen, unassailable business judgement, and is obsessed with local customers. They are fully versed in top talent - writers, directors, producers, actors - working in the Japan, along with an understanding the dynamics underpinning the industry in Japan. For this role, we are seeking someone who is deeply curious and can apply their comprehensive knowledge of entertainment in Japan to a global streaming platform.

The Head of Scripted and Movies works closely with key stakeholders within Prime Video and Amazon Studios (including Marketing, Operations, Business Affairs, Production, Finance, etc.) and externally with Creators and Talent. The candidate will have a persuasive, clear and professional verbal and written communication style, ability to oversee the most complex of business and creative negotiations internally and externally, and the confidence to both advocate ideas and collaborate in a highly pressured environment. Key job responsibilities

• Setting and implementing original content strategy in Japan.
• Build relationships with show creators and creative community.
• Seek out and assess pilot proposals, scripts, and pitches.
• Work with writers to develop stories and scripts.
• Oversee all creative aspects of development, production and post-production.
• Serve as primary Creative liaison internally at Amazon and externally with Creators and Talent.
• Manage a team of executives.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
• 10+ years of successful TV, unscripted and film development for a studio, network, streamer and/or production company
• 5+ years managing a team
• Deep knowledge of industry talent and trends with a deep portfolio of industry contacts
• Native or equivalent level Japanese proficiency
