Position Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and analytically skilled Senior Meteorologist to join our trading analytics team. The successful candidate will provide high-quality weather forecasts and insights to support our power and energy trading activities across Asia and other markets. This role is critical to helping our traders manage risk and seize opportunities in weather-driven energy markets.

Key Role Responsibilities

  • This is an operational meteorology role focused on delivering high accuracy forecasts for energy markets customers in a dynamic trading environment based in Tokyo
  • In depth analysis of global weather model data and creation of detailed and accurate forecasts for wind and solar production, precipitation and temperature across NE Asia spanning time ranges from day ahead to season ahead.
  • Clear and timely verbal and written communication of these forecasts to internal customers including traders and analysts.
  • Running verification analysis to understand possible areas of improvement in forecasts
  • Conducting analysis of atmospheric and climate data and helping to formulate new tools which could improve forecast accuracy and analytical capabilities on the meteorology desk
  • Be prepared to work an early shift. Weekend duties would not be required.

Qualifications
Key Qualifications and Experience
Required Skills And Qualifications

  • Educated to at least master's degree level in meteorology or similar subject.
  • A passion for weather with strong/proven forecasting skills
  • At least 5 years' experience in producing forecasts for high-stakes customers (Energy Industry preferred, but experience serving military or commercial customers also of interest) including the interpretation of meteorological charts and communication of forecasts and forecast risks to customers in a clear, timely and actionable manner
  • Solid knowledge of atmospheric processes and dynamics (e.g. Teleconnections) on a global scale and how they can impact NE Asia at the Continental- and Meso-scale

Beneficial Skills

  • Coding aptitude in Python
  • Solid understanding of Data Science principles and ML modelling
  • Experience working with databases and building web-scraping tools
